Thoughts on a Norinco CQA as a first 223 rifle purchase

Either get a used Norc without a bunch of mods, because you’ll be surprised how cheap a deal can be.

Or, shop around for other recently de-valued BNIB made in USA ARs, will be double or more (after tax) than a used Norc (yes a used Norc can be that low), but the USA made one will be new.

Stay away from the “Canadian made Norc” lol

I’ve had several US brand name ARs, my Norc kept up with them all, in fact had been more reliable in specific adverse conditions/occasions.

Hi
Thanks to ALL who have replied here. I am looking for a used Norc. because no taxes and relatively cheaper as a first starter .223. Also it is modifiable.
Now ALL I have to do is keep scanning the EE section and Gun shows BUT I don`t think I`ll find one at the shows for a low price, shows seems to always be costly.
George

No it’s not modifiable. It is not anywhere close to correct in specification parts. It’s made with Pot metal and will not last past 10,000 rds if that. You are wasting your money. Just buy a proper made Colt Canada Rifle or Colt USA LE6920. Why waste time or effort. Why collect a low end rifle that takes up space.

Save up by once. Cry once.

Try reading up on the AR 15 like for example a book called “Black Rifle II”. IF YOU RUN ANY QUALITY MATCH AMMO at a later time you can transition too that without issue. $500 you spend on the Norc is just pissing it down a drain. At least buy a low end US made one instead.

Every person I know that goes down the Norc path always ends up slowly moving up and regrets the Norc purchase. Some on here are diehards but they moved on too. The Norc serves no purpose in today’s market in Canada.

Of course it’s kept up at the range with a few hundreds rounds fired through it a year. There is no data there. The NORCS you bought could be replaced with a single colt and a spare bolt. You would be better off. Colt will last longer than the 3 Norc and parts will Be Salvageable at the end of its overall service life.

I can’t believe these arguments are still made on cgn in 2018.

I got out of the AR restricted game because they are range only toys, people in Canada don’t buy ARs for life and liberty, nor do we lug them around the bush for “work”. When was the last time you fired 20K rounds with your Colt outside the range in Canada? When I ran ARs for range sports, I placed about 2000 annual rounds per most pieces, still anecdotal for sure but this thread is about an entry level range toy.

I kept a middle price range AR (LMT CQP MRP) with a spare barrel and spare OEM BCG just to have an AR that is a no frill “workhorse”, as sensible a product as that is I will not tell the OP to get that in this current black gun market. My old Norc I used to have ran fine for what the OP is looking for.

Telling someone who is asking about an entry level AR that they must buy a Colt is dumb. In many ways buying a $400 used Norc is financially better off than sinking money into a genre of rapidly depreciating restricted range only toys, especially when we are getting more flooded with NR freedom options which is what people want.

Might as well tell the OP get KAC, Noveske, H&K or nothing. At least those are true unique and interesting quality pieces and not just long past “milspec” fame.

You are totally wrong about Norinco CQA. I have one at back home which is modified with DIAS and LANTAC ebcg and clocking around 3000 rounds, all fired in FUN mode. It is still rock solid. Someone made a fool out of you that its made by pot metal.lol

Oh really “fun mode” sure. Please send a range report with your latest groupings. Lol. Is the barrel starting to disintegrate yet?
Getting a Colt to start is the best way to go. If you want to go above then aim for the higher end stuff like KAC. But for a budget rifle I would rather just get a Colt Expanse at the very least.

Wrong, again.

Nothing wrong with a Norc. I guess I got a "good one" because mine's been running flawlessly for 6 years and thousands of rounds with no issues using a variety of ammo and magazines. There are more prestigious brands out there but for a starter AR they aren't bad.

Have you ever owned a Norc, or are you just a Norc snob?? I may have to run to the safe and tell my modded Norcs that I can't modify them because they are so out of spec that nothing will fit,,,I'm sure they will be disappointed :(
They are a great gun for the money, and just because you wouldn't own one doesn't mean they are a POS. As you can see there are many owners on CGN that are very happy with their affordable, functional and reliable Norcs.

None of you gentlemen have gone past 4000 rds not to mention you are shooting commercial ammo. Think about it. Honestly I doubt half the owners have even made it too 2000rds. Gentlemen you guys are BS yourselves. The level of thinking here is scratching the bottom of the barrel to say the least. The value of a Norc in today’s Canada is stupid to buy when so many USA manufactures make a better closer to proper spec Mil version that is miles a head of a Norc. Not to mention you can get a USA gun for peanuts and close to a Norc save $100 on the EE that is near new.

Also why support the Chicom war industry. Sell out the industry of the West is the motto with this thinking. You cgners deserve what you get especially when China cuts off the supply.

Now you are being ridiculous, many Norc owners are far beyond 4000 rounds, hell, one CGN'er is over 20,000. Also, an entry level American made AR is not "miles" ahead of a Norc, but you would have no idea because you have obviously never owned a Norc. You have your opinion on Norcs, and that's ok, but you keep making inaccurate statements in this thread and you are starting to sound like Kidd X.
We get it, you hate Norcs , but don't tell people that a $500 Norc is a bad purchase that won't last past a few thousand rounds because that is absolute bull####e, for what we are allowed to do with an AR in Canada there is not a thing wrong with them.

Don't even consider a norinco. They are made fbforged steel and have chrome lined forged barrels and will last a lifetime punching holes on paper up here in Canada. At their retail price they are way too go of a deal to even be considered for the average hobbyist!
You must only buy brand named products here. You must spend at least $3000 for your semi automatic only 5 round limited toys so you can pretend you are some sort of zombie killing operator. And don't forget the $1000+ optics package. You need to keep those 5 rounds on target you know!

I don’t hate Norinco. 20,000rds. ??? The manual says 5000rds. Lol. I get the impression emotions are dominating your responses here.

The gun is a waste in today’s market. Really it was waste back in 2010 or whatever too.

Not to mention I saw Colt Canada rifles going for $1450 on the EE and a SAS for $1600 EE. With deals like that why would you bother.

Ask Gatehouse about his documented Norcs before you stick your foot in any deeper

What about Mike from Canmore ? Your not saying or stating anything useful with some facts or more importantly data. Every person I know that has actually used Norcs ends up buying a litney of parts andsome don’t fit and then the gunsmithing starts.

As for KiddX he is right about Norcs. In 2018 just get a USA made one off the EE. For extra 100 it’s worth it.
