Thoughts on Girsan MC28 9mm

New and used M&P's go for under $600 and you know you can get parts for the guns as well as holsters etc. There was a used M&P on the exchange for $450. How much is too much?

What sold me over the M&P was the quality of the insides, if you break them both down side by side the Girsan looks to be a much better built gun.
Only time will tell but if it shoots as good as it looks and feels this will be a keeper.

The bottom with stamped steel parts is the M&P the top is the Girsan.

If your extractor breaks where do you get a replacement for it would be the concern I have. The M&P's will last you your lifetime no matter what they look like. So will the Girsan. Parts do break though. Even Glocks have Glock Armourers. I know where I can get a M&P extractor, where do I get a Girsan extractor. In my case I hope the Beretta extractor will fit.

I am not against buying the Girsan, they represent real value but I am curious where you get parts from if any break.

There are lots of clones/copies out there, where does a person get parts for an Uberti or Norinco or any of these?
I honestly don't know because I haven't owned one and I haven't been into this that long to have broken any parts.
I do have a ROHM RG63 in 22lr that I have been told is crap and to get rid of it but as I found out with that you can find
stuff for them you just have to dig a little deeper on the web for the parts.

Well in the caase of Uberti the importerStoeger Canada maintains parts and their clones often match originals. I have a Girsan copy of the Beretta 92 Centurian and I suspect most of the Beretta parts would inter change with the Girsan. The Norinco clones of the 1911 are not an issue since the parts, often with fitting from other makes can be swapped out. This is also true of their SIG copies. When you move into Girsan/Canick pistols that are specific to those manufacturers you are into a different kettle of fish as you are with Norinco pistols that are not exact copies. Girsan, because I have an example in my safe, and Canik because I have read reviews from sources I trust, make excellent pistols. With use parts do break and if and extractor breaks or a firing pin/striker breaks where do you get parts? I shoot a lot more than most do because I am retired and have the time so I want to know if a pistol goes down it isn't going to be six months or a year before a part can be replaced.

I didn't ask to stir the pot I asked because I want to know before I drop $500 - $700 into my next toy. I don't want to have to spend months trying to source a $10 striker. I would think most would want to know.

Everything Beretta I tried fits my Girsans... extractors, springs, guiderods, slide stops, sights (tight), and locking blocks. Girsan is a 92F clone, so they do not have the updated locking blocks but Brownells sells the whole "kit" to upgrade. Just need to replace the barrel pin and it's good to go with the new block.
I'm the same mindset... I don't own any unique guns that I cannot easily replace parts on.

Thanks Hitzy good to go. I figured I was on solid ground when I got the gun. I would be more concerned f I was buying a Girsan proprietary pistol.

I was more asking myself and didn't mean anything by my comment as I have an MC-28 and just assumed when I bought it that a person could get parts from someone.
Kinda crappy if there is no parts support from the importer.

Ok Guys here is my mini review of the MC 28. This is my personal opinion so take it as you will.

First of all, i have a total of 7 pistols 2 are polymer. I have shot others as well, so i think i can give a pretty good overview. The Girsan mc 28 is a great pistol that feels and shoots way above its price. It is also the only striker fired pistol i have.

It is similar in feel and dimensions to the m and p but ergonmics are really nice and it comes with three backstraps (i use the smallest ones). I have short fingers so i like the smaller backstrap. IMO its a better deal than the m and p.

The balance is really nice and the fit and finish are more than you would expect from a 400 dollar gun. Nothing feels cheap and the mags fit and drop very smoothly.

The slide racks very nicely with a more expensive feel to it but the slide release is a little stiff at first. I found it start to get better once i got some rounds downrange.

I have put 300 or so rounds down the pipe and no stoves or fte. I have tried remy umc, cci and eagle and it likes them all in 124grain.

The trigger is really nice in sa but the da is a little long and typical of most da pulls. It has the trigger pull safety so it FEELS a little long in the trigger pull but only in DA. It is impossible to fire this pistol by accident unless your finger is on the trigger. I also much prefer this pistol compared to the more expesnive glocks i tried.

As for magazines, i got a couple of cz 75 aftermarket mags from corwin and i had to dremel a VERY small amount at the mag catch to make them fit. I can live with that. The pistol comes with 2 mags, cleaning tools, a small bottle of oil and a cheap re-loader for the mags.

I don't think at its price at $399 when i got it that there is a better polymer out there that i know of.

Is it my favorite pistol? YES and NO. For price and quality yes. Its worth the money. For sheer favoritism and personal feelings no, ....that title belongs to my Tangfoglio but its a far more expensive pistol and not a fair comparison.

Bottom line is that it is your hard earned cash folks, so spend it on what you want.

To sum up: Is the mc28 worth the price? yes and then some.
Would i buy it again? YES.
Would i change anything about it? nope.

Hey rabbit....I will dig out a mag and take a few pics....

I don't know if a pic will post ...i'll try...if that dosen't work then pm me and ill shoot an email or txt to you with a pic.

I see our friends in the US get a different kit, which looks great. But, being in Canada, naturally we will get a different, fewer goodies package. But, when u figure in the exchange its pretty good even without the extra mag. The article claims that CZ75 mags are allegedly fitting as well. Hmmm

Well I just bought a FDE MC 28 from P&D for $370+gst.
Sweet deal, Great feel in the hand, will be able to pick it up in January. The mags fit and function in my Shadow, will be interesting to see if the Shadow mags work in the MC 28.
I will chime in again once I run some rounds through it.
Cheers.

Canadians seem to be getting two instead of three mags and no mag loader .... there was a thread about a guy upset he didn’t get the mag loader. Apparently, the Turkish companies put together different kits to keep costs low. Still a deal though for our market. Ive seen them as low as about $350 on sale.

I have both the MC28 and the compact model. They are a great value for the price, I picked up the compact for $239 US and paid $259 for the full size . The importer was blowing these out to focus on the (Zenith) MP5 clones made in Turkey.
Mine came with 3 15rd mags each.
I can confirm CZ75b mags DO NOT fit unmodified. I have CZ75b as well as a Tanfoglio and a Turkish clone. Some older Tanfoglio mags did fit and function in the MC28, 3 out of 25 I tried fit. None of the Mecgar mags fit that I tried.
