1. Can anyone point me to a how-to post, article, video, etc. that shows how to disassemble the trigger group on an SKS-D. I have seen such how-to's for the regular SKS, but the magazine catch on the SKS-D seems to complicate things.

2. What should the inside of the gas system look like. Should there be some sort of dry lube coating inside. I have an old beater, and I scraped out a thick layer of shiny grey crusty stuff a long time ago and have worried about it ever since because the piston does not slide very smoothly inside. The piston also has some rust/pitting on it

3. Has anyone ever had their barrel recrowned? Is there a cheap place to have this done in Alberta? My crown is awful - I have given serious consideration to just giving it a few spins with a 1/2" metal bit using a cordless drill because it would be a major improvement over the current situation.

2. The inside should be clean, clean it like a bore, use a good solvent and swab it til it's clean, soak it good and let it sit for a couple hourse in solvent, do the same with the piston. Then very lightly oil and reassemble. it should slide smoothly.

The first video is a great feild strip video. The second video on the trigger group is not bad, but it is featuring a regular SKS, not an SKS-D

So none of the models ever had some sort of special coating in the gas system?

I'm not a SKS guy just came across these when I was looking at some CZ stuff
thought it might help point you in that direction lots of stuff try using the search.
Hope it helped.

I think it was just caked on powder - but I scraped it out not too long after I got the rifle, and it came out in funny looking chunks. I never had a problem with functioning before or since. I am sure thats all it was, because someone on CGN would surely have said something if they knew of a special coating that was used in a gas tube... just thought I would ask since I have recently rejuvinated interest in my SKS.

So I am still looking for help disassembling my SKS-D trigger group and any info on recrowning the barrel. I don't know how much this would do for the accuracy, but my rifle is so terrible that I am willing to try most anything. I would leap for joy if I could just keep 5 rounds on a letter sized sheet of paper at 100 yards.
