Anyone throw their own clays and have great success? I started with one and have now moved on to twos. I've been doing pretty good so far. Although I usually shoot in a gulley that has a couple of obstacles and occasionally a bad toss results in a 0 or 1 out of 2. (trees on the left, trees on the right).

Hey don't worry about the ones that get away, They all break once they hit the ground. I used to throw my own clay birds. This got old fast. It was too much work for one person. ( load the machine, pick up the gun, make sure it's loaded then set the cord on the skeet thrower so that you can set it off with your foot, shoot thats the fun part. Unload what is left in the gun put the gun down and start all over again.)

I prefer going out with a couple of friends and we each take turns or we just go to the club and enjoy ourselves.

If you enjoy throwing your own and it keeps you shooting, By all means don't give up. Just try to find a friend to throw them for you. You will enjoy it that much more.

There used to be portable hand held spring loaded throwers. We tried to do the Patrick Flanigan with it, as well as just chucking as many up by hand and then shooting them. Probably dangerous, but you know...

Trius One-step - BEST one man thrower ever made.

I have a Trius 'normal' one, and it sucks to reload by yourself. The One-step has no spring tension until you step on it, so you can load it with one hand while still holding your gun.

Stepping down loads the spring and releases the thrower, allowing you to keep both hands on the gun.

I've had about 2000 clays through it, and it hasn't broken a SINGLE one. It's unreal - my old trius gave me breakage of about 1 in 8.

Oh guys.... I am talking about throwing with my own hand. I have my shotgun in my left hand and backhand throw my clays with my right hand. Then quickly raise the gun to my shoulder and aim/shoot. Usually I don't look down the barrel anymore to aim. It's something I can't explain, but it works.

When I can not get to a range to shoot, I do not like to litter my property with clay. I buy cheap bagged potatoes. For me they are easier to thow and large ones can be cut to hand size. A well centered shot will completly desintegrate and they are easy to toss doubles. Ones that are not hit well can be re tossed. I have not calculated the cost, but my last large bag cost me $2.50 ish. Clays cost about 11 cents each. No argument with potatoes either. When someone claims a chip that no one else saw you can just pick up the spud and the evidence or lack of evidence is there for all the world to see. It is fun and I am sure giving my new 391 a workout.

that is a really good idea, i will have to remember it

What's the record now? Topperwein used to do 7 with a pump gun but I think it might be up to 9 by now. As impressive as it is, I've never seen the point.

The point of doing more than three? Just to say that you can. Throwing my own definitely made me better for when other people throw for me. I would say that I can hit more than 95% when other people throw for me. Although I'm better on my left side. Is this normal?

That was Herb Parson doing 7 with the model 12. Topperwein was into a .22. I know some guy with a tricked up nova did 8. Flannigan does 6 from the hip with a 1300. Best I have done is 3 but got a torn rotator so now I throw taters or have my dear wife throw for me. I only do it when I am bored and can not get to a clay range.
