Stopped by EPPS today. About a 85km (45min) drive. I used the wifes car and her gas.
I checked out the Thureon 9mm and the .45acp. To different animals.
The 9mm uses the 10rnd smg mag and is inserted vertically. It has a standard AR button mag release.
The .45 ACP come with a 10rnd GLOCK Mags and it is angled back towards the trigger (shooter). The mag release for the .45 is unique, reminds me of a Norgon.
There are a few things to note about the models available at Epps.
The barrels have no muzzle device and are not threaded.
It has the vented barrel shroud. There is no continuous rail on top of the shroud. Only on the Receiver. The shroud does have 2 small threaded holes at 10 / 2 / 4 / 8 O'Clock. What these are for ?? Who knows.
The octagonal forearm with the Continuous Top Piccatiny Rail (with available rail kit) does not come with these ones.
The M4 stock is a 6-pos stock, pinned with a small roll pin. Remove it and you will have a full functioning stock.
Holding the rifle in front of the magwell felt great with the .45 because it is angled back towards the shooter.
The 9mm felt ..weird because it is straight down
Grabbing the vented shroud doesn't feel right. Maybe because it is small, if it was a little thicker >? A Magpul AFG would work good here.
So I am sitting on the fence, I would have bought it if it had the Octagonal Forearm and Top Rail. But if I have to buy it as an extra....this rifle would be hitting $1200 with no sights.
Hmmmm.
I wish there was a store with a KRISS I could fondle.
That's quite impressive.
What's the largest pistol mag that can be used in these? They don't seem to be restricted to 5 like most NR's

I bought a couple of korean made glock mag clones both in 45 and 9 mil, They are 33 round mags but pinned with a pop rivet at 10 round,Is it possible to get the larger mags pinned to 10, like the rifle mags are pinned to 5?
Funny how I have been researching into 9mm AR's the past few days, and this thread pops up.
Just my luck as well the price just skyrocketed on the Thureon.
I am now considering building my own 9mm AR from scratch...
Better question is are the handguards easily changed?
The installation of the octagonal handguard is not as easy as unthreading one and threading the other on. The octagonal may need to be machined so that the flats line up so the rails will line up with the upper receiver.
This is probably the easiest way to put sights in the gun. That is the Gas Block Sight Mount and retails for $69.00. The rail section on the top of the gas block is lower than the receiver so you have to use the M4 style sights which have a higher front post.
The Gas Block is held onto the barrel with set screws and goes in front of the handguard. You can order them from us.
The round venting replaced the slotted. The threaded holes in the new style handguard are for a Laser/Tactical Light Mount. This a piece of rail 1 1/2 " long.
Ellwood Epps does not have exclusive distributor rights to the Thureon Defense carbines, however we do have these guns in stock. With regard to function of these firearms, our US-based exporter did test-fire three (3) examples of each calibre (9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP) to confirm their reliability. All three models passed without issue after several magazines of different ammunition types were fired through those guns. Epps is the warranty repair centre for Thureon Defence guns, therefore if you do purchase any of these models, and do happen to experience any issues with that firearm, we can service that gun on-site for you.
I just got off the phone with Doug the gunsmith at Epps. And he said that he would be able to do the change and they will probably be ordering some in to do the change.
So??... Arms East got the boot?
I thought Walter was the importer? Maybe this is why he deleted posts on his TD thread and has not updated it?
There is nothing wrong with the round hand guard...if they tapped it at 12 o'clock / 6 o'clock, at the front and mid points of the rail.
Why would they tap it at 10 and 2?? Useless.
It need somewhere to put a grip or Magpul AFG. That's it. and the rifle is fine.
I know there are alot of people that want it to look like some sort of Assault Rifle. But I also need it to be functional.
You should also ask why these are not threaded or have a muzzle device. Save cost I guess.
I could always drill and tap my own holes to install some rails................................
