Tick and Lyme Disease Awareness

Is this Doxycycline the commonly prescribed antibiotic for lyme or when lyme is suspected after a bite ?

Yes. You take it one time and that's it. (IOW not two pills a day for two weeks, or whatever). But if Lyme Disease is suspected, there is a much more rigorous dosage of antibiotics. Thankfully, I have only ever had the prophylactic treatment, not the full meal deal.

I used these on our turkey hunt this year. Me and my kid had zero ticks and everyone else was picking them off at the end of the day.
Little pricey but well worth it. When I went near my buddies legs that had a tick the tick would act all erratic and confused right before we brushed them off.

Very interesting indeed, and I like the idea of no chemicals. But I wonder about this part:

The device emits ultrasonic pulses that are imperceptible to humans or animals

We know that deer and turkeys have exceptional hearing, but is their frequency range such that they will not detect ultrasonic pulses? Ultrasonic, by definition, is frequencies above the human threshold to hear.

A friend forwarded me this news story about a Biologist battling Lyme.

Much of what happened to her is common between Lyme victims BUT this is the first time I have read about a patient getting early antibiotics (which everyone is told will prevent Lyme) & she still developed Chronic Lyme.

I can see lots of this sort of thing for sale on amazon.com, and not very expensively, but they're all plug in indoor versions. Without tracking down the price of these portable units and getting myself on all sorts of marketing lists, how much do they cost?

My buddy Jon does a podcast called Chasin' Tails and he covers this subject with Justin Woods from Geneticks. Have a listen!

I'm not getting this . So if i have a tick and call the Doc the first thing should be Doxycycline but i take a single pill or dose ? Then if lyme is actually suspected it will be a full course of antibiotics ? I'm just trying to figure out what to tell my Doctor as there's no way she'll know and if i can't explain it to her she won't give me a script over the phone and with Covid it's impossible to get in to see her . Found a tick on my wifes hat yesterday , the only article of clothing not done with permethion . Her hat was laying by the fire for awhile .

Great stuff Jay .

If you have a tick embedded in you, and you remove it, the thinking HAD been that a tick less attached for less than 24 hours doen't have time to pump the bacteria into you. BUT just to be sure, the normal action is to prescribe a single dose of doxycycline. If the tick has probably been embedded for longer, and/or if there is a bullseye rash, and/or other symptoms, the usual treatment is a full course of antibiotics. With the prevalence of Lyme in ticks in our area (Kingston, ON), a personw should INSIST they get the Doxycycline if they find a tick embedded in them, even for less than 24 hours.

There is a lot of ignorance on the part of medical professionals about Lyme, and hopefully this is changing as more cases come to light. Two springs ago, when I had a tick in me and went to my family clinic, they had seen a number of people that same week for ticks. But there is still a reluctance to prescribe antibiotics without evidence of a bullseye rash, etc etc.

WILL you always feel a TICK bite ? or can it be missed ? RJ

Last month me, the wife and two kids took a walk thru the woods. Mainly just to see the lay of the land in behind our house, as it's protected green space. I came home with a tick and didn't discover it until the next morning while taking a shower.

I felt what looked like a small skin tag filled with blood on my hip at the belt line. Thanks to beer I didn't get a great look at it. I didn't feel any pain or irritation when fiddling with it. I took it upon myself to pull and pinch it until it literally popped off. Surprised, I look to see what it was and to my horror it was a deer tick. Now, had I known it was a tick I would have removed it text book with tweezers instead of possibly injecting myself with the disgusting little bastard. It did come off head and all at least.

Got my wife to give the kids a very thorough look over. Luckily they didn't seem to have any. We washed any and all clothes from that day, and called the doctor. He prescribed me penicillin as a precaution, and told me to be aware of any possible symptoms.

I caught Lyme, was caught in time (3-5 days). Before antibiotic treatment I had quickly developed weak muscles/joints: think Trouble opening passenger car door medium fitness person mid 30s age. Antibiotic treatment VERY effective, Zero lingering symptoms now. ZERO!
