Was recently given a stern warning by a landowner whose property I hunt turkeys on, about the serious consequences of Lyme disease, tough-love but scared the beyeezus out of me...

I deer hunt in Arkansas and my hosts are really good with supplying me with the "good stuff" -Permethrin by Sawyer- to spray all my clothes with. Not once did it occur to me to maybe pick up a bottle to bring back, and now with the US border shut down there's no chance I can pick some up anytime soon.

So gents, what do you do to protect yourselves? Duct tape the pant legs, Deep Woods Off, TSC Horse Tick spray on your pants? Please advise, I'm all ears...

You can order Sawyers permethrin spray from Amazon.com. You can't purchase in Canada but they have shipped me the four pack of 250 ml bottles. If you try ordering a larger size, it is flagged as non-exportable to Canada.
I did this last June, so I think you can still order this as the mail is still going cross border.

tick repellent typically has 0.5 gr/l permithrin.
Home hardware sells Wilson Spider Ban concentrate that is 12.5 gr/l for about 12 or 13 bucks for 250ml.. Just water it down to the appropriate concentration by mixing it 25 to 1

Thanks you gentlemen for the TSC, Home Hardware and Ebay/Amazon tips!

Most of the Ebay hits I get will not ship to Canada plus the shipping will cause it to arrive too late i.e. after turkey season ends. Will try the local Canadian stores you all suggested, appreciate the responses.

Pants get tucked into my boots, shirts get tucked into my pants and I routinely do visual checks. Especially before I get back in the truck or go into the house, I strip down and check myself out well. The like to hide in armpits and other crevices...

I’ve pulled them off me a few times the other year in the spring while out morel picking. Never in the fall for some reason, I hate the bastards with a passion. Thought about the fly spray but I took a look at the ingredient listing on a few of them, figure I’m safer without that #### absorbing into my nervous system. Haven’t caught any ticks on me the last two years thankfully.

As others have said, every piece of clothing gets tucked in and Ultrashield EX spray on my clothes from Home Hardware. It's not 100% but its pretty close...…

I got lyme 3 years ago..... Was early spring and I was out and about dealing with a beaver issue at my camp....

To put it in perspective, I was wearing a full set of rain gear at the time..... Over regular clothes .... Yet somehow got one in my back that I noticed a day later and pulled....

Didn't stop the lyme rash from appearing and the doc put me on some very harsh antibiotics....

Now, at camp during deer season, the guys do a tick check after every day as do the gals....

Permethrin spray (the yellow biggie from tsc) is now used to spray our hunting outers at the beginning of the season..... I can tell you it's no joke..... Have seen ticks die on confact with my treated clothes..

Wear long sleeve shirts and tuck pants into the tops of boots. Check yourself and the dog after. Nothing to fool around with.

don't wash your clothes.

That sawyer permethrin stuff will stay good for multiple washes.

read the instructions carefully.

I Bought Permethrin concentrate in the states a couple of years back. I use it diluted to spray around the outside of the house as well as on my hunting clothes. I have enough left to last me for a few seasons. Spraying my clothes tomorrow ready for spring bear season.
