Ticks this spring!!

I will be damned if I take ANY of their "vaccines"...
When you guys are finding ticks can you post the general regions you found them in? I will be turkey hunting next week.. so far I have not run across ticks in the area I hunt, over the years, but I am sure they are around. Creepy little buggers.

Lots of ticks out here in NS already. Found a few on myself and many more on the cats/dogs. Both deer and dog/wood ticks.

A day of mild weather even in the middle of winter and you can be sure they’re out and ready. As soon as spring arrives, they’re out with the snowdrops.

It’s a way of life out here these days unfortunately. a good check at least once a day is necessary and ideally a quick check during bathroom breaks. Harder to do but doubly necessary when camping a few days in the bush.

Funny enough I’ve spent the last two days out in the woods. Once on the edge of cleared pasture, around 50-100yds into tree line working on a cabin. lots of ticks. On myself, my bag, my tools, anything left on the ground.
The second day deep in the woods exploring new ground. Pushing through tall undergrowth and getting slapped in the face with branches. Didn’t see a single tick.

🤷

Ottawa Valley / Arnprior here.
Never seen so many than in the last week. I am pulling anywhere from 6-15 off my clothes from my daily bush walk, both dog and deer ticks. Plenty of them on the dog too but she is on 2 separate med, so no worries except that she she leave some on the couch. Had 3 attached on my so far. 2 dog 1 deer tick. They seem to attach quickly too.

I really thought after this winter we just had they wouldn't be that bad this year. But this is the worst year I've ever seen

But growing up in NS. Ticks only gotten worse in the last 10 plus years. I never got any while in the army, camping, scouts, beavers, off roading etc.. I got my first on me in 2012 of a auto shop in Enfield.

Unfortunately pharmacies here don't take ticks seriously. Got bit by a black leg, took it in and basically got dismissed.

We were visiting family near Peterborough yesterday. My son went outside for a few minutes and pulled a tick off his shoulder last night. First one I've dealt with.

A few years ago I was able to buy a bottle of permethrin at a compounding pharmacy. It was like $120, but it can make 20L of 0.5% solution, so it works out much cheaper than things like Sawyer at US Bass Pro.

I'll see if I can't find a link to the product, then you have to call around to find a compounding pharmacy that'll order it for you.

Saw my first tick this year in February, on the dog at Chehalis River Campground.

Is .05% permethrin what is safe to use on our clothing?

0.5%, not 0.05%. Thats what Sawyers is.

I just tried to find some on Google and couldn't though. I found my own link to the product in a thread from 5 years ago, and the link is dead. Looks like the company who made the stuff i bought isn't producing it anymore, they still have a website but they don't list permethrin.

Hopefully there's another company making it for pharmacies, because $6CAD for a liter sure beats $18USD for 750ml..
