Tikka T1 issues.

Went to my first long range position shoot yesterday, June 2. Used my Tikka T1, rifle is very accurate, but...Frikken mags are a pain and the bolt is binding. I have purchased 4 extra mags, 1 of which will only hold 9 rounds and the original mag jammed the follower in the bottom at the start of a string.
Then i discovered while shooting from various positions that the bolt will bind if you put the least amount of upward pressure on it while pulling back. Never noticed this when shooting from the bench or out gopher shooting. Tried it again this morning after a good cleaning and relube that any amount of upward pressure on the bolt handle will bind the bolt almost inoperable, pull straight back and it is good.
I own 3 T3 rifles and they sure don't have this problem, not do the CZ rimfires i own. Will have to clean it off again and try some dry graphite lube but i'm not holding out any hope.

Likewise. Could be a "Friday"-made gun, but that would be weird for Tikka.

Mags-don't get me started there. I think every 10rd. rimfire mag I have is made so tight that they feel like 9.8 round mags. I only load 9 in most of them to save my fingers and give the gun a better chance of picking-up the first round. I know I have a 10rd. metal CZ mag that is so tight that if you squeeze 10 in, the top round is cocked-up about 10-15 degrees higher than it should be. Pops the round out when the bolt closes but doesn't chamber it. I either dent the brass, take a chunk off the bullet, or both.

My 10rd. T1x mags have run perfectly, sometimes the gun doesn't like the truncated rounds like SK Flatnose Basic. Aside from those, no FTF/FTE ever.
 
Never had bolt binding issue with my T1x. I have two magazines and they are tight to get the 10th round in and harder to insert with 10rds and the bolt closed but it is possible. Does seem very odd for tikka their t3x is fairly well know for being resistant to binding.

I'd try and get a video of the effect and contact warranty about it.
 
I don't even try to get 10 rounds in a mag. Bolt shouldn't be binding easely. I shoot some prone with my T1x and I never had this issue.
 
define "upward pressure" on your bolt. You may just be binding it with the bolt-release mechanism latch on the left side, or the bolt handle is rubbing on the action.
 
My T1X did that in factory trim. Once I put the aftermarket barrel on it also needs the bolt handle rotated clockwise to the bolt handle raceway to chamber rounds reliably. I would buy a CZ next time.
 
A T1X was checked at Cabela's today and it does not take much upward pressure on the open bolt to cause the bind.
A similar check on my rifle showed a slight upward pressure will cause the bind.
Probably, as suggested previously, the raceway is not aligned.
 
As i stated shooting from the bench or out shooting gophers i had no issues, it became a problem while shooting from various positions. Using a bag while on the barricade, or the tank trap, i don't move as easily as i did 40 frickken years ago. Prone is a real pain in the neck, literally. I found i can replicate the binding on the cleaning bench quite easily.
The mags do piss me off for sure, i have no trouble getting 10 rounds in my cz mags , plastic and metal. Stock and screw tension has nothing to do with the binding, i can hold the barrel in a padded vise with no stock and the bolt will still bind. It's a pity as the rifle shoots great, may have to try a different rifle next month on the range.
 
Insert the mag while the bolt is back, not under a forward bolt. Some are too tight to be full under a bolt and expect the top round to be stripped the first time the bolt gets involved.
 
Just a thought - could it be an issue with action screws (eg. one is too tight). Usually they're not that sensitive, but when a bolt is binding, this is always the first place to check.
 
Never had that issue with mine. Tried at the range and can’t get it to bind even when trying to. One thing I noticed with mine is that it got smoother and shot better after 500-1000 rounds
 
T1x mags are garbage. Out of the 5 I have 3 are usually FTF whether loaded with 9 or 10 rounds. This was with 2 different barrels. They send the bullet tip upwards into the top edge of the chamber or pop it up completely.

Look around rimfire central and snipers hideout and you will find loads of people with T1x mag issues.
