I just sold my RPR in .22LR and am now looking for a 17HMR, mostly for varmint hunting. Have dialed it down to the two rifles listed in the title. Curious to hear from people who have had experience with both. Which is more accurate? Which has a smoother bolt? Any issues? etc...

Thanks

455 has a smoother easier cocking bolt. As far as accuracy I have not shot a Tikka 17hmr but I have shot a few 455 that easily shoot under 1/2 Mia at 100 yards. You will have to put a trigger spring and bushing in it though.

Thanks! If i was to go with the 455, do you happen to know the part numbers for that that bushing & spring, or where one can find them? Just to lower trigger pull weight?

Go to rimfirecentral.com in the states, lots of reviews for the 457 and not all are good. 457 just listed 950$ ? See dealer news

Might want to wait for a 457.

I have a 455 fluted varmint in grey laminate thumbhole stock with both 22LR and 17HMR barrels.
Both barrels are tack drivers. I kept the 17HMR barrel on it.
Downside for the 455 is the curved bolt handle and high throw. Can interfere with some optics using low/medium scope rings.
Put an $18 yodave spring kit in it and the trigger is now excellent.

The T1x I just got is a 22LR.
Also very accurate - I would have to believe the 17HMR will shoot just as well, my buddies still has not arrived for me to report anything.
Synthetic stock is not my cup of tea, I replaced it with another synthetic one however (T3x Varmint) as it has a longer LoP and a nice high comb.
Bolt throw is fantastic but not as smooth as the 455. Throw is slightly up, loads of scope clearance.
OEM trigger is adjustable down to about 18 ounces - needs 0 work other than adjust to your liking. Out of the box mine was 3#8ounces. No creep whatsoever.

The 457 is a 455 barrel with a T1x action in a wood stock, lol. I would buy one except for the IMHO ugly laser engraving on most models.

Lol the (10rd 17HMR) T1x mags are only $4 less.....

Pretty soon they will give the rifles away. Just make up the monies with mag sales...lol. And one of my 455 mags doesn't even ####ing work. I guess I wasnt expensive enough... lol... ..

Im pretty happy with the t1x. Seems to shoot alot of ammo fairly well. Tried 4 groups today at 100 yards with cci mini mags. 2 of the 4 groups were less than an inch. It was cold and a bit breezy and I was using pretty low end ammo. I think when it warms up its going to shoot really well.

Until the T1x comes in wood, I’d recommend the 455. Both should shoot well but the 455 Lux is much more my style. Stick with the polymer mags for the 455,

I have 2 455s, and love them both. One in 17 HMR the other the Military Training Rifle; both are truly tack drivers. Triggers are very good but since I shoot target with the training rifle, it will be getting the Yo Dave treatment in the future.
