Tikka T3 Lite, good gun?

The other downside, in my opinion, is that you don't have too much choice with bases and rings.

How much more choice do you need? I have Leupold rings and bases on mine. Weaver makes mounts, talley (As mentioned) plus the Optilocks. In a nutshell, that's about the same as a Winchester or Remington. All you need is a good mount to lock down your scope, and all those will certainly do that job. If anyone should be complaining, why not complain about the Ruger mount? Not too many choices there, and most folks stick with the (Horrid of horrid's) factory supplied rings! But they do the job well.

These'll work....stainless too :D

I have a t3 lite in 7mm mag with a Luepold scope and it is one of the slickest guns ive ever used. The ease of operation and the ease of a quick alignment are amazing. With a limbsaver the recoil is not at all bad. Again, it is sooooo slick the bolt is so smooth and it just begs to fly to your shoulder to be shot. This has increased my accuracy on quck shots. For the money I am amazed. My distances arent like most here but it has made me reach out farther with confidence.
Picked up another T3 in 300WM. Traded my 30-06 pump for it. With a limbsaver is comparable to the 30-06 without a pad. I need to get pics.

I didn't know Leupold made mounts for the T3, are they new or am I totally out of the loop?

...and you are joking right? :p I use Talley, Leupold, Burris, and Weaver on my other rifles but the integrated factory rings on my Rugers are BY FAR superior to any other ring or base system I've ever used or seen used on a bolt action.
About the only disadvantage to the Ruger system I can see is a lack of see-thru rings for someone who wants to use open sights, but these days that is about as "specialty" as swing aways, and most production bolt actions are sold clean of sights anyway. Another consideration with the Rugers is you may want to hand lap your rings as they don't come with alignment inserts that I am aware of. I think the one-piece optilocks on the Tikka and Sakos are a step in the right direction as they mount integral to the reciever but they seem awful bulky and if you're going two-piece it seems costly.
Other mounting systems may have their individual merits and applications, and may "do the job", but the Ruger system does it that much better. The rings look like a part of the rifle, never off color or obtrusive. Don't be fooled by the "free with the purchase of a Ruger Rifle!" jingle, they are the real deal in my opinion.

Mad Mikey.

The TÂŁ Lite in .308 has just been reviewed by Shooting Times and Country magazine in the UK, if they put it online I'll link to it. Good review.

My Tikka Count Just went up by one!

If you can get past the look of them enough to try them you will like what you have in your hands.

5 years ago I swore I would never own a plastic heap of junk! I tried it, now I am hooked.

Carried my first one out west 5 years ago in a 338 wm lite.

I would replace all my hunting rifles with them, and that is alot to say for me. However they are not build friendly and offer common chamberings, unlike there cousins did in the big 995 action.

Tikka T3 Lite

Over priced metal wrapped in cheap, ugly plastic stock with a mag too short even for midgets.
Tikka should do the shooting community a favor and make a nice walnut stocked rifle with a hinged floorplate sporting rich blueing and iron sights.
It's too bad when even the fine quality Euro guns are cheaping out, next thing ya know they will be made by norinco with a Tika (spelled wrong on purpose)sticker on the barrel.
I had a 300 WSM in the Tikka T3, you couldn't give me one now.....you asked.

Beretta did that, called it a Sako 75 Grade AAA and charged 2200 dollars for it lol!:runaway:

I know I am a wood guy too! and not much of a laminate guy. The trouble is the wood is BFU worse than the plastic stock. I personaly just like to cary the T-3, it works for me I shoot them well off hand and the fit is perfect more so than an FN, CZ, Win or rem mid range guns.

I have my share of pretty ones that do not go hunting. I just figure they are so ugly you cant do anything in the field to make them worse so I add beauty marks.

hey blargon, that wood is georgeous!!! did you get to pick through a selection, or just lucked out?

my two cents, have a tikka t3 stainless in 308, put a burries 3x-9x fullfield II plex on it, factory action top notch, the mags are pricey, but picked up a 5 round extended mag, and harris bipods (poor man's sniper or bench rest rifle) lol

i find this a well balanced package, the syn stock can get cold in long waits during winter, but a pachmyer tape-on pad solves that.

a 30-06 or 270 (wsm) works well, imho, but anything such as 7mm, etc. and up, i think i would prefer heavier wood setup, like in my browning a bolts. regards

I like wood stocks. Very nice for fair weather hunting and walking around looking resplendent in the woods. I took the old standard walnut stock into the deep wet woods of northern BC over a few moose seasons. No matter how much I protected the stock, oiled it, etc., after about 3 seasons of this very hard conditions of rainy and snowy hunting, the stock was literally rotten from all the exposure to moisture. The clue was that I kept screwing the rear tang screw wondering when it would finally catch snug. Turns out I was compressing the wood that had finally given way. Sure had some nice time-in wear and bruising though that gave the rifle character.

So... ss and composite stocks from there on! Proof is in the harvest - my T3 in 300 WSM which is only a year old has given me a deer and a bear. Groups MOA and shoots half MOA when I'm on my game. That's my T3 target as my avatar... ok some clover leaf but this is good enough for me!

Mailorder...:), However, this stock has been refinished in Tru-Oil, which brings out the lines, kinda like the Deluxe model. Sold this one to a friend.
