Tikka T3/Remington 700?

A'ight! I've decided (with the help of you guys, except from the random "i'll choose C!" posts) that i'll get a Tikka first (either getting SS Lite or Varmint depending on prices) in .308 and if I don't like that; heck, i've still got 8/10 of my life left, and im sure i'll be able to afford another rifle (Remington 700). I'll also buy some sort of military surplus weapon too.

EDIT: How long will a Tikka last me for?

ALSO, I MIGHT get a Mossberg 500 for fun somewhere along the lines :D - just seems right to have a shotgun in a weapons cabinet. And I believe this will be my FINAL random question before I stop pestering you "wise-men" ;). Are any of you outdoorsmans? As in, being able to live in the wild starting off with just a knife, good clothing, and your head? If so; how would a bow fit into a weapons collection? And is it easy to hand-make a decent one?

Thanks again guys. I really appreciate it. I'll SURELY use this as a reference in my future :D.

How long will the Tikka last? No idea, they're basically Sakos without the fancy wood on them, and I've heard of people handing them down to their children.
It's like anything though, if you take care of it, it will take care of you.

No idea about bows to be honest. Everyone I talk to likes the Mossberg 500 shotty, but I don't have first hand experience with it.

In my experience, Remingtons are more accurate then most, including tikkas, I am currently fighting with a Tikka, heavy stainless, varmint, .222 Rem.....it just doesn't shoot as well as most of my Remingtons.

That hasn't been my experience. The t-3s that I have fired were at least as accurate as my factory 700s.

As for not being able to load singly from the top,if you can't get the job done with a full magazine, then one more round likely won't be enough either.Carry a spare loaded magazine.

as was pointed out in the Savage thread...they shoot good. very very good. might be an idea to consider one of them too...or at least, those of you who are reading this to figure out which way to sway after the pro's/con's have been weighted.

this is the Savage thread I refer to (for those who find this thread later on):

Loading from the top when hunting is annoying to me

I would go with the Tikka. I did, and have no regrets. No, that clip is not the standard 3 shot, it looks like the 6 shot. The 3 shot factory blends right in.
If you are worried about accesories, then you might consider the Rem SPS as its a little more after market friendly. The Tikka scope rings are easy to find, and it will take a bipod.

I'm in a similar dilemma,
I kinda know what I want but more than that I definately know what I don't want.
Personally the need to tweak this and change that is what I don't want, got plenty of those already.
So I'm leaning towards the T3, And the Varmint looks nice to me but I've seen several advertized weights, the Varmint at 8 pounds and the super varmint at 6.5 pounds. What is the actual weight of these things?

T3 Varmint 3.6 kg (8 lbs)

T3 Super Varmint 3.7 kg (8 5/32 lbs)

T3 Lite Stainless Sporter 2.8 kg (6 3/16 lbs)

Nope, but I think Todd's gone as heavy as 250 in his. 215 is as heavy as I've tried, but I'm going to fool around with the 200's this Fall, provided the hunting God's down laugh at me again this year. They should fly similar to a 180 out of a .30-06, so I think they'll be fine.

Yeah, I knew that, but the Sako has a longer mag/action than the Tikka. I'm just curious how far you'd have to seat the 225 to get it in the mag. In all honesty, I like to have a Fed, but not if I can't get decent velocity with a 225gr out of it. For shooting 180's or 200's I can use one of my .308's.
