Tikka T3X Compact Tactical Rifle Opinions?

Tikka's are excellent value and usually great shooters from the box. Awesome action, and the aftermarket support for Tikka's is starting to get pretty strong, which is a nice plus if you ever want to upgrade your rifle. The Heathen is a nice touch as well, it's my favorite self timing brake and I've tried a few of the more popular ones available.

Harris's are okay. Cheap build quality with the stamped legs which are never truly square. The bipod is the foundation of the rifle, and the recoil will exploit any weakness in your fundamentals and equipment setup. Having a bipod with the legs unsquare will present a disadvantage in terms of recoil control, but seem people are okay to live with that. Limited features on the Harris as well, and the mounting options are fairly lackluster. If you can't go any higher budget then a Harris it's certainly a workable bipod, just be aware of it's limits. I would not go any cheaper then a Harris though, and definitely avoid knock-off/counterfeit bipods.

If it was me, I would go with the Atlas. It's a higher quality bipod with more features. As always, being CGN, I probably just opened up the flood gates for criticism since I suggested that a more expensive product is superior to a cheaper counterpart, so I apologize in advance for the ensuing onslaught of people that will come into your thread to argue bipods...

Thanks bro, which model did you have? The only concern I have is I need it to swivel a bit just in case I’m on uneven ground or uneven table...

The Harris I have no idea, it's still one the gun and I've had it since 2003. I havent had the CTR out of the Pelican this fall yet, been mostly shooting shotgun and 22 with the kids.

I'll have a look but its nothing fancy, just whatever Corlane had in the store when I bought my 22-250 that year. The Atlas is a much nicer product to be sure, but it's also quite a bit more $$. Even when shooting my last few rounds with the CTR at TLM, I was using Armageddon bags and not a bipod anyway.

OK, I think I’m all set, except for ammunition… Tenda has federal gold medal match at $29.95 per box. They have both 168 and 175 grain… Most of my shooting will be inside 600 yards. I have been told That the 168 grain would be best for this unless I wanted to go beyond 900 yards and then the 175 would be best as it stays supersonic past 1000…
Any comments / experience with these rounds in the CTR?

Unless there is a difference in price why handicap yourself with 168s?

I agree, I’m a little bit OCD and I wanted to make sure that both were equally good with this rifle, I can’t see 7 grains making that much difference, but apparently It can in certain rifles

I routinley shoot out to 500-600 with 147gr surplus. LOL. But 168's do work better past 600. Past 600 147gr wanders far too much. Furthest 5 shots I had on a 8" plate was with 168gr, at 700m.

I have owned CTR in 223, 6.5cm and 308. All three have been great shooters. I have run them in a McMillan A3/5 stock

First trip to the range with the 223, with 75gr Amax handloads I shot a 1moa ten round group at 300 yards. The 6.5 Creed has shot many half moa 5 shot groups with a few different loads. The 308 I didn't shoot a ton, but it grouped the 178gr Amax well
