I got to handle one of these recently for the first time. I'm sure they shoot well, but how are these rifles worth $1700+tax? :runaway:

am I missing something? they *should* sell for $1100-1200

$1700? Grab it. they are nearly 2 grand in many places.

As for value, you are getting a gun that needs nothing except a scope and good hand-loads to achieve excellent results. They are smooth and they are extremely accurate, but be happy with what you get because after-market goodies are rare and expensive. I've had a couple of TikTacs and They were a good gun for what I wanted at the time. If they were made in 6.5X55, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

They are not the only choice out there. Savage and Remigton have some excellent tactical rifles for less money

The Super Varmint is available in 6.5x55 and is practically identical to the Tactical, costs about two hundred less and is stainless steel to boot. So what are you waiting for?

Same as all Tikka's. Fine guns, just priced too high. The tic tak is the same deal; you're absolutely right it's a 1200 gun. But the t3 light is also a $500 gun selling for $700

This has been discussed / argued ad nauseam . My opinion is you get a rifle that generally will shoot .5MOA to .75MOA without trying . My Tika Tactical shoots as good as my Sako TRGs

User adjustable trigger thats way better factory trigger than a Rem factory trigger . I guess you can put a Timmeny / Jewel etc in there.

Adjustable cheekpiece on stock is a nice touch

Threaded muzzle. One can argue if a brake is necessary on a 308Win ( its not ) but nice touch

Picatinny rail . Some will argue that its flat ( no 20MOA slope ) but lots of people buying this won't care

Lots of internet commandos claim that the Tikka stock is not as good as a AICS or McMillan etc . Its not ,but truth be told most guys dont need a true tactical stock like a McMillian etc .

These are the same guys that have the tricked out Rem 700s with a $1000 stock and a $300 scope

Are the magazines overpriced for what they are . Sure but I've beat the crap out of mine and it seems to work fine. If you think $100 is too much for a magazine you haven't seen the cost of TRG-22 / 42 mags . At least it has a detatchable mag unlike a 700P / LTR etc. I guess you can always put a Badger / HS Precision bottom metal in a Rem but thats more $$

My opinion is if you can afford another $1200+ buy a TRG22 . As a budget alternative you can buy a Tikka Varmint

Do I think that the Tikka Tac is a bit overpriced considering another 1200 will get you a TRG. Yes . Do I think that $1800 is a lot to spend to get a gun that will shoot .5 MOA to .75MOA all day long . No

Do I think that its bad value to spend $1000 on a Rem and another $1000+ on trigger work, action work, stock etc yes . I would start of with a custom action if you are doing that.

I have seen lots of guys at the range with tricked out Rem 700s that can't shoot nearly as good as my Tikka Tac ( I have one of those Rems in my gun safe ! )

I've owned my Tikka T3 Tac for about 3 months now and I have nothing but good things to say about it.

This is my first rifle and I have never shot before in my life so it was a nice suprise to see it shoot .75MOA right off the bat. Granted I am not one who thinks that you can buy shooting skill but its nice to have a very accurate, forgiving rifle.

Sure the rifle is a bit pricey. But take into consideration what you get for it. My rational for dishing out the cash rather than upgrading a Remmy700 was quite simple. I am new to the rifle world so theres alot of ways to go wrong. I would rather spend the money on a Stock BMW then upgrade a Honda civic. (remmy users, I dont mean that as an insult. My next Rifle will be a 700P).

I would recommend a tikka in a heart beat. You might be better off with the varmint if you're trying to save a bit of cash though. I couldn't get one in 308 at the time so I went with the Tac.

Cheers

the Tikka tactical takes overpriced to a whole new level. you are basically paying an extra thousand dollars for an adjustable comb and picatinny rail on an already overpriced rifle.

you could buy a Remington 700 SPS, drop it into a proper stock like a McMillan A-4 or AICS, drop in a Jewell trigger, buy a picatinny rail for it and have twice the rifle for roughly the same price.

noone ever said the Tikkas were 'bad' rifles. theyre just retardedly overpriced, but people who dont know any better keep buying them.

i would buy a Tikka tactical tomorrow for $1000. for $1800+tax? not even if i won the lottery.

Tikka's are more money, but you don't have to keep throwing money at it to make it shoot! No bedding, trigger jobs or assembly, aftermarket stocks, trueing action..... Just take it out of the box, tune the trigger down yourself and shoot it. So your paying for a ready to go rifle.

You pay for the barrel and bolt, and rest is mostly plastic, like daisy and they do not charge for it:D

I do agree about the price is heavy but they work, and work well once you can get past the plastic look and get it to the range you will be very impressed, I have a 308, and a few varminters and have noting to say bad about them in the performance end. As for shooting and many rounds, through them 1000ands down the pipe and never had a failure yet!

There are pros and cons for each i guess its fair to call them over priced, however there not a 3500 TRG! a few $$ cheeper than them yet!

would you buy a Chevy Cavalier for $50,000? regardless of how well they scored in car reviews, or how good on gas they are?

or would you buy something that actually belongs in that price class?

Bingo!
The t-3 lite at $689.00is very good for a game gun or a light sporter, but the tactical version is a rip off. Whats next? A stevens 200 tactical at $1000.00?

Jebus, don't give them any ideas. The "tacticool" bullsheet is just a money grab for the most part. A Tic Tac doesn't get me all revved up at all.

TRG 42 had it right. Spend the extra money and buy a TRG 22 if financially able to do so.

For that kind of money ($1,700 ish), I'd rather have a SPS Varmint mated to a fully adjustable MacMillan A5 stock with a few extra aftermarket pieces thrown in for good measure.

The Savage LE2B (or whatever it is today) would be far superior to a Tic Tac if a standard factory offering is what you're looking for. Far less expensive as well.

Remington 700 SPS .308 (basically a 700P with a cheap stock) - $600
Jewell Trigger (best 700 trigger IMO) - $200
Accuracy International Chassis System Stage 1.5 stock w/adj cheekpiece and LOP (also converts it to a DM) - $850

Tikka Tactical: $1650

no fluted barrel but this was the only clear remmy 700 pic i could find in the AICS 1.5 stock. only thing you are missing is the threaded muzzle, which for 90% of tikka tactical owners sits unused.

so, you were saying the Tikka Tactical is a 'great deal'? :)

oh, and you can sell the stock Remington 700 synthetic stock in the EE for $100, which will cover the Warne 20 MOA picatinny rail +shipping/tax.
you can also sell the trigger group - not sure how much the new Remmy X-Mark Pro trigger group sells for but im sure at least $50-60ish.

I wouldn't spend the extra money on the Tik Tac over the Varmint.

I picked up a used 308 Varmint, cut the barrel to 20", Simms limbsaver, covered the entire rifle with Krylon paint and am going to add Burris signature rings with the 20 moa inserts, and the Tikka oversized bolt knob. Nice and light and does everything the Tic Tac does for half the price.

They are very smooth rifles and shoot amazingly well. I have had Rem and Savage previously but for a LTR style rifle there is no comparison to this Tikka.

The TicTac in .223 24" was my first rifle almost 2 years ago. Since then I've done alot of shooting and exploring the world of firearms. I now have several bolt guns, an M-14S, a pistol, an AR for Service Rifle, and a .22 Remy.

I always go back to how beautiful that Tikka is to operate. It is smooth, and just feels so much nicer than anything else I have. That rifle shoots .400" ten shot groups at 100 over and over and over, and it is bone stock.

I'm at the point now that I'd like to build a nice project gun and sell some stuff off, but as expensive as the Tikka is, I'm having a hard time putting it up for sale.

The thing just plain works and feels like quality.

What exactly does the extra $800 buy you over the Varmint? Or the extra $1100 over the lite?

Threaded muzzle? That's a $50 job at your local gunsmith. But why bother, it's useless.
Adjustable cheekpiece? Again, <$100 for an r33 pad. Otherwise, it's just a cheap moulded plastic stock
Rail? <$100 from CyberK here on the boards.

Your money would go a lot further if you bought the Savage 10/MacMillan and put the difference into optics. And spend an hour glass bedding it, and another hour honing the trigger and sear
