Hi Guys. I'm looking for a new shot timer. It has to ahve a couple fo features, though:

1) Ergonomics: It must be more ergonomic than a platic box, or like trying to shove a toaster up your ass, without unplugging it. I don't want to be concentrating on keeping it from turning in my hand as I try to hang onto a membrane button that I can't even feel.

2) Ergonomics: It must not make me want to strangle babies out of pure frustration. It must not remind me of trying to get my aunt's cat into the bathtub.

3) Ergonomics: There must be some hint that it was meant to be held in a human hand. I must develop the sense that somebody thought: "Hmm, do I want the RO to be concentrating on not dropping this piece of ####, or concentrating on the shooter?"

4) Ergonomics: No membrane buttons.

5) Ergonomics: Shaped like a hand, kind of.

6) Ergonomics: Ambidextrous! I want to be able to easily switch which hand is free to match the shooter's strong hand.

7) Ergonomics.

8) Ergonomics. It was worth saying one more time.

perhaps if you didn't stick toasters up your ass you could still feel the membrane buttons. :)

but if you don't like the speed timer, there is competition electronics which has a small more triangular shaped timer. Competitive Edge Dynamics which claims to have the smallest timers, and lots of accessories, including straps and brightly colored rubbers.

There was also another timer I remember seeing advertised, which had curved lines, more shaped for the hand, but I can't rember who made it.

PACT timer looks very ergonomic?

CED7000 looks very nice. Both are around $129.US

What is the official timer for IPSC?, or can other timers be used (ie; PACT, CED) I am assuming they all can be used, but just checking.

No official timer, but since RU Ready has pretty much been used at all the WS since the company started, I'd say they are it. Jack used to pay a premium to IPSC to put thier logo on it, but since his timer is now used by all kinds of sports, it confuses things.

See Bartledan, if you were a subscriber to the Cowboy Chronicle, you'd have seen the ad for the Pact Timer.
The new Club Timer III is about $129.95
Have a look here: 3w.BrianEnos.com
Good luck.

I don't think he sells the PACT timers to any other country than the USA...? Says so right under the listing on his webstore.

The RU Ready one is certainly not waterproof... we had some issues with one at todays outdoor match.

My club gave a BB course last year. Of course, it had to be one of the hottest weekends that year. We had RU ready times shutting down in the heat. The guy giving the course put all the timers in a cooler, and rotated their use every 10 to 15 minutes.

I bought a PACT after seeing that.

Also, and I was surprised with this,

I was helping give and IDPA course in Pembroke several weeks ago. The head teach and I used my PACT timer. One of the students asked me what kind of timer I was using. He wanted to know because he said that he was tone deaf and could not hear an RU Ready timer go BEEP, but he could hear mine loude and clear.

I like my PACT time. So do the people that borrow it from me:D
