I just laid my first scrapes with Tinks Dominent Buck. Also left a broken trail to my stand.
I plan on putting down Estrous Doe #69 on Saturday over the scrapes.

Wondering how well this stuff works. So... What has Tinks scents done for your hunting?

Worked well for me last year, called in a small buck to within ten yards who hung around for ten minutes until his older brother showed up,after the boom the little one ran away.Stuff sure smells like heck though!!

Last yr we tried a bunch of different brands/situations. Some of them actually caused the deer to abandon well used trails. Some seemed to do absolutely nothing. One actually smelled like womens perfume.
The smoke sticks were "close" smelling, but not quite.(when compared to the one that worked)
One brand however, worked as advertised. I'll pm you the maker.
I will say it wasn't a brand I've ever seen on a shelf, we ordered it over the internet from the (small) maker.

We started checking them out, as the last few yrs we've been playing with calling different species in different situations. In most cases calling doesn't work either, and in some will backfire on you, but if the situation is right, it works like a charm.
Like everything else in life, I suspect I'll have it all figured out right around the time I'm too old to hunt anymore.

Why the big secret?

I've tried a few brands and had mixed results. The best was some my buddy bought years ago. Was REALLY thick, almost paste like. The smell lingered quite we'll and seemed to interest deer.

I have never had any luck with attractant scents, but I have used cover scents on the soles of my boots to get to my stand and they worked well.

But a friend of mine has used Tinks 69 and swears by it, claims the buck he shot last year walked right up to his scent rag and sniffed??

I once tried this stuff called "Indian Pete's Buck Lure". The result was cattle and dogs wouldn't leave me alone. I've heard favorable results from Tinks smoking sticks, but never tried it myself.

Not a big secret, just it seems to work in one situation consistantly, and I am hesitant to give kudo's to something I haven't got completely figured out yet.
Best way I can describe it is; given a specific set of variables, the one scent works almost unbelievably, and consistantly. If the variables aren't quite right, neither are the results. We then tried other scents with the same variables, and got everything from no response to flight, so it's definitely the scent.
It's sorta like calling. Given the right circumstances the right call will bring them right to you. If the situation isn't quite right, or you use the wrong call for the situation, the opposite will happen.
I guess what I'm saying is, there is definitely something to this, but it's no magic bullet. Once you figure out what WILL work consistantly, it's another usefull tool in the box, and I suspect what we've found that works for the area and time we are hunting may not work for your hunt in your location.
In either case, the responses we've seen (in my opinion) definitely warrant further attempts.

Amen..........

Last year was the first time I have ever had a buck respond to my call.

When ever you say "deer never do that" ; they will
When ever you say " deer always do this" ; they won't
