Tips For New IPSC Shooters

Ghost holster dot com for anything CZ. Angus sells holsters and pouches for the SP01 on his website and is the cheapest that I have found for CR Speed stuff. He sells books and vids as well for the best prices. Very Canadian friendly.

Nah Quig, HB means guys who don't drink those "###### DRINKS"! You know, guys like M-Bomber, Robley (although he's from NS) and I that go about the town and scare tour guides and meet the Mudmen (DRINK AND FIGHT!).

Hr--- you'll do just fine! You already have a good attitude. Work with what you've got, get good with it, THEN see what others are using and decide if you NEED to upgrade to keep yourself happy. Equipment will win IF it works for you EVERYTIME. And have fun... too many shooters leave the sport because they aren't having fun.

The SP 01 (a great gun! I want one!), Bladetech holster, and mag pouches will serve you well for YEARS (and I ain't kidding!).

Oh, and definitely go out with your mates and your NEW mates for beers after a good match. IPSC has introduced me to some great friends from all over the country (okay, all over the world!) over the years. Listen to guys like RElliot, Slavex, HungryBeagle, M-Bomber, Quigley, IPSC1, Ipsik, Mobile 1, Madness and you'll learn alot. I'm friends with all of them and they have all taught something to me at one time or another (don't tell them that though)!

Let us know how it went!

Getting out, meeting new people, and having fun are the reasons why I'm getting into ipsc. Maybe further down the road i might get more competitive but right now i just want to have a good time!

I'll let everyone know how it goes!

One tip is to manage expectations.

I've been shooting for years even competed during my time with the Canadian Forces. So when I decided to give IPSC a spin I thought I would clean up. Not

Snap shot in the forces was like one shot in a five second exposure.

5 seconds in ipsc is like a full mag; reload and for master class a latte.

Point is have fun and don't get discouraged if some Grannie kicks your a$$ at the el presidente on your first time out. (Speaking from Personal Experience)

If you can view the results for each stage it may help. I try and remember something about each stage. If I am getting lots of points, than accuracy is not the problem, perhaps my draw is slow, or I don't run fast enough between shooting areas in a stage. Did it take 4 -5 seconds to complete a mag change, when Shooter "A" is doing it in half that time. Was my shooting stance comfortable, how about my grip, did I use my sights....
IPSC is accuracy AND speed = good -safe gun handling, not just accuracy.
What about my gun, am I comfortable using it. Am I used to the recoil /timing?
Just like any sport, you find your weaknesses, and work on them.
Personally, I feel I need to practice different aspects to improve; IE:weak hand shooting is Number #1, I always place low so I do have to practice that. My foot work sucks as well, I am overweight and not a fast runner. Those two things as well as what I would like to be better at are things I can change. I have a lot more fun when I have given a good effort, and place respectible overall.

Well i did my first day of the course and it went pretty much how i thought it would, Just a bunch of paper work and some dryfire exercises. This is going to be fairly easy, I don't know why i was so worked up over this course.

Who's your black badge instructor?

Don definitely seems like a good guy, has a good attitude and is not a drill sergeant which i thought he would be. I'm the youngest guy there so I was a little nervous in the class cause most of the people there that had alot more experiences than i did and were coming over from PPC or IPDA. I'm really looking forward to shooting ipsc! :dancingbanana:

They are level I matches but you'll have to have completed your black badge course by then in order to shoot.
