Same here. I haven't been following the magazine issues for a while, but are the newer ones any better? I want to pick one or two up but I'm hesitant because the one that came with my kit was just horrible. I don't know if they have metal replacement lips either?

I've got two of these now, both from HiCal, and without any trimming/filing I brought them to the range and fired off about 300 rounds of 333 through them, just rapid firing to see what would happen, with only one stovepipe and 4 or 5 jams.

No metal lips available yet AFAIK, but the new-style mags have steel pins facing front and back (the early-style had a steel pin on only one side). If yours is the early style, I believe that ProMag had a warranty-return type program going on to replace them with the new style. ProMag does make steel-lipped mags, but not in this model...yet. I, for one, would be happy to see it happen, though!
I haven't had any problems with my mag. I've put around 300 rounds through it, with zero mag-related failures (I had a couple of fail-to-fire issues, but those were dud rounds). I also have a spare mag on order...
I bought one of theses recently and I have had problems right from the get go ...
1. The mag is very tight and hard to load rounds past 10. The loading process actually puts dents into the round under it because the spring is tight.
Is there a way to exercise the spring with wrecking rounds to loosen it up?
2. Without any mods to the feed lips, the mag feeds the rounds (when it can actually strip one off) into the extraction port. The left side of the feed channel had a huge burr in it. I took a file to this and rounded it off.
3. Once the mod was done, the bolt pushed the round into the bottom of the barrel causing it to jam and bending the bullet out of the brass. And when it does fire, I only get about 2-3 shots off before it jams the bullet up and ruining it.
Any ideas?

The mags are designed tight, as you can always fit them to the gun, due to variations in 10/22s, they need to break in, so use them alot & they will take more rounds as the spring loosens up. They dont need steel lips as you can replace the lips in seconds with a new set when they wear out. We now have the loaders & mag clamps in stock for your mags on the webstore.
I dont think the thing you refer to as a "Huge burr" is a burr at all. you shouldnt have files it off! you did the same thing the guy who sold me his marauder did, and it wont barely function now. That bump is supposed to be there. I bought two more from Mystic Prescision (now waiting on another), and i left them alone. Im finding tha tif i use cheap bulk winchester lead bullets (no jacketing, or "plating if you will") they wont feed worth a damn! I can get one or two shots off then they stick, they wont load into the chamber, they get caught up on the bottom of the chamber, shaving/denting the lead nose of the bullet.
If i use jacketed, or pated bulk ammo, (Federal 525, or Winchester Dynapoint GT), they work ALOT better. I have even got the odd mag off without a jam/fte/ftl (failure to load).....
I'd REALLY like to see these come out with steel lips like the factory ruger, or BC mags though! and they should sell us just the upper portion of the mag, so we can easilly convert our mags to steel lip ones!
I have that one bad mag which the previous owner screwed up, and i can't get Pro-Mag to send me a replacement top piece for nothing. they said i would have to send in the whole magazine, but they wont ship to Canada anyways, so i'm just screwed. All they'd need to do is send the "lips" and i could pop em on... but no. What a bugger!

I JUST got an RMA# from ProMag, but i have to have the replacement shipped to a parcel service i use in the US, so i will mail it out from the US to them next time i pick up stuff from said parcel service... ;-)

Well that "burr" was shoving my rounds (tried winchester, AE and Fed Blue) into the extractor groove. I could be wrong, but it still wouldn't feed properly after I "adjusted" the feed lip into a smooth run to the chamber. But that backfired on me and still wouldn't load worth a damn.
Now if the "burr" is there for a reason, I guess I need a new set of lips to try again

anyone having issues where the rounds will get stuck and you have to tap your mag to get the round to the top? I have two mags and it does it on both of them. I can only get a couple rounds off before having to remove the mag and tap/bang it a couple times to get the round to come to the top. I have not done any modifications or filing to the mag yet.
i have 2 that wont cycle well yet. Still hoping they will but I am getting fed up wasting ammo that jam. I hope to gopher HUNTING in the next few weeks if it stops raining. Ill try them again but if they jam too much I will have to use my trusty steel lip BC mags or the rotary mags.

Ok. Ill tell ya. First, disassemble your magazine (see youtube video and go to about 8 minutes in where he demonstrates how to remove the spring and feed lips). I noticed that my rounds were getting stuck below my feed lips (top round had no pressure on it and was sitting there loosely). So I knew the problem was below the feed lips. Turns out there was a little bit of plastic flashing that was catching the back rim of the rounds just below the feed lips. Once you have removed the spring and feed lips, look at your magazine from the top with the front facing you and you will notice in the back right side a bit of plastic flashing that will catch on the back rim of the .22 round. Take a file and make it smooth so you can run a flat head screwdriver along the back wall of the magazine and past this flashing without interference. After I had smoothed out this one spot I had no problems with my magazine feeding. I loaded it and manually unloaded it several times with NO jams. Seems this fixed mine.

We have found some with flashing inside the channel, if you are having feeding issues, pry each side of the feed lips to remove:
Clean up the channel so the round can move up freely:
they should run perfectly now, if you still have feed issues, try changing ammo to a different brand.

I'm getting a weird issue with my pro mag. When it ejects the bolt closes half way on the shell, which I call a cigar chomp. Why is this happening?. No stove pipe issues at all though unlike those crappy Butt creek mags.

I believe it was federal but I'm sure it will happen with all other types. I only use hollow points though.
I have played with these mags for awhile now. It is like throwing darts at a dart board whether they work in your rifle or not. I check the US sites and find many of the sites are posting a ammo warning for the AA922 mag.

I am having an issue with my 2nd gen mags as well. They seem to feed the rounds into the chamber ok but the bolt does not quite close properly. I have replaced the extractor and the firing pin with upgraded parts, and these have helped a bit (no stovepipes anymore) but the firing pin seems to be striking too light to set the round off. This occurs in 50% of the rounds I try to fire.
I have tried my Butler Creek mag and the stock Ruger mag and the gun functions flawlessly. Upon further examination and as per hical.ca's instructions on page 1, I can see no where that the bolt is contacting the lips of the mag. When I release the bolt on a mag, however, sometimes it will close completely and sometimes it will not. I suspect this is why the firing pin cannot contact the shell properly.
What I need now is a solution for the bolt not closing properly. If anyone has any suggestions, I am more than willing to listen. Thanks.

-Put some silver sharpie on the top of the feed lips.
-insert magazine & lock into position.
-manually run the bolt several times.
-file lightly in any areas there is silver removed from.
-Check often until the bolt doesnt make contact.
This fixes most mag related problems we have seen, as well as cleaning up the feed channel.
