Tired of being called a "Fudd" ...........

The whole Fudd thing is just a joke guys.

We are ALL shooters regardless what we use to propel bullets down the range or towards a deer or gopher.

Elitism is for fly-fishers ............ not shooters. ;) LoL

Now you've done it. You quit preaching and went to meddling with my fly fishing! :D

Perhaps, but the guy who is willing to have handguns and ARs banned so that he continue to hunt deer once a year with his '94 Winchester is a bit of a problem IMHO; antis come in many forms. The whole Fudd thing points out the divided nature of the recreational firearms community, "My gun is good, but I don't like the look of yours so it should be banned." We need to agree amongst ourselves at least that there are just guns; there is no such thing as a good gun or a bad gun.

Not true , there is such thing as a bad gun , Marlin makes them :D

'Boo; You have a very fine rifle there!!
Those S&L rifles are usually quite accurate.
Is the twist marked on the barrel?
Many early production S&L 7x61 rifles have a 1-12" twist, and they will only stabilize bullets from 150 grains down.
Later ones had a 1-10" twist. These are good with almost all 7mm bullets.
The brass you show is early production 7x61 Norma brass.
The later brass has no "Re" on the headstamp, and is marked "Super 7x61"
The capacity of the latter brass is greater than the early stuff.
I just finished helping a friend develop a load for his 7x61, using the 140 Accubond.
IMR 4350 worked well in his case, but any of the slower powders would be a candidate.
While factory ammo can be hard to find, brass is available.
We got ours from Jerry Teo at Mystic Precision.
Keep us informed as to how this turns out for you.
Regards, Eagleye.

Eagleye,

I have been keeping an eye open for a good condition S & L for while now. This one just fell in my lap the other day and to say I am tickled would be an understatement. I am a sucker for European and British rifles from the 50's and 60's these early Danish rifles were indeed special.

S&L proofed these to 130,000 psi which is one of the reasons Roy Weatherby used them originally for his then new 378 Weatherby. While they were indeed strong enough their method of loading makes them less than wonderfull as a dangerous game rifle.

Mine is an early one with the 1 in 12 twist marked on the barrel.

IMO, a Fudd is someone who sells out the gun rights of others under the illusion that it will protect theirs.

A fudd is not someone who simply owns only non-restricted long guns.... but it can be that person if they believe that handguns should be banned.

Often Fudds feel that hunting is the only purpose for firearms and those that own them for sport or self-defense should not be permitted the same 'privledges' they are.

Obviously, there are a million other examples...like the trap shooters who shun the action pistol guys....or the action pistol guys who shun the .22 target shooters.

Ding ding ding. There you have the definition of a fudd. It has nothing to do with what gun you shoot or what habits you have at the range.

Fudds almost don't exist on this site. However, go to hunting BC or Alberta outdoorsman and you will find them. They honestly believe AR-15s and handguns were designed to do nothing but kill and would be glad if they were banned.

Here's a fudd for you guys.

Editor, The News:

Re: Semi-auto guns available anywhere (The News, July 27).

The article puts it precisely. The more military-style firearms and handguns, the greater the likelihood of their “escaping” into the hands of criminals, the deranged, the political or religious zealots.

There is no place in a civilized society for an overabundance of such firearms on the streets.

To suggest otherwise, to say, “... it doesn’t stop until a second gun gets on the scene,” is simply insane.

We don’t live in an ‘Old West’ (that never was) and certainly don’t need to live in a new wild west.

But it seems that gun proponents would like to see that happen.

Just how many ‘Billy the Kid’ or ‘Wild Bill’ wannabes are there out there, anyway? And, should they be making public policy in Canada?

I don’t want someone defending to the death of anyone in my family, friendship groups or community, their presumed right to carry personal arms, because that is the bottom line and a predictable outcome, witness the ongoing shooting deaths in the U.S. daily, and increasingly in Canada.

A sane, safe, civilized society does not need or benefit from more restricted, semi-auto or concealed guns, just the opposite.

By the way, I have owned ‘long rifles’ for 50 years and look forward to the fall and hunting in B.C.’s great outdoors, where one shot is more than enough in most instances.

Yes Johnn, it's an early 54j with the single-stack magazine and 26 1/4" ; 1 in 12` twist barrel. Probably circa '53 or '54. The bluing is all original with a bit of thinning around the front sight ramp and muzzle.

The butt-pad is original and while the stock has been refinished somewhere along the line no excessive amounts of wood have been removed.

I went through the 100 or so brass I got with the rifle - an even mix of the Norma head-stamp and Super 7 x 61 - and culled about 40 that were showing thinning at the web. I now have 25 good `Super`cases and 35 of the older brass. I loaded up some 139 gr Hornady SP and will get out to the range next weekend if the scope rings I ordered show up before then.

The rifling and chamber are mirror bright and I expect the rifle should be as accurate as the ones I have shot in the past.

Years ago, when I lived a little north of you in Wells, for my my second big game rifle I 'graduated' from a sporterized 303 Br to a Parker Hale in 308 NM. The reason the guy sold me the PH was because he had just obtained a Schultz & Larsen in 308 NM. When he showed me the Schultz, I was hooked and promised my self one day I'd have one. The guy I bought the PH from was a gunsmith and told me, in addition to design features, the 'things' that made a S&L's the rifle they are is the highest quality of workmanship and barrels of Douglas air guage quality. A number of years ago, I acquired a model 65DL in,;) 308NM of course. A short while back, I picked up my second Schultz, a model 68DL in 7x61 S&H. I'd like to eventually get the 'big three' efforts of co-operation between Schultz & Larsen and Norma. 7x61 S&H, 308 NM and the 358 NM. ;)Two down, one to go. I do have a Husqvarna model 1651 in 358 NM but one day I'd like to pick up that caliber in a Schultz. Here's the two S&L's I've made mention of.

And 'the Northern European Connection', Schultz & Larsens and Husqvarnas. Top down
Husqvarna model 3000 in 270 Win
Husqvarna model 4000 in 30-06
Husqvarna model 1651 in 358 NM
Schultz & Larsen model 68DL in 7x61 S&H
Schultz & Larsen model 65DL in 308 NM

A friend gave me a copy of the Bolt Action Rifles expanded 4th edition that has a very informative section on the Schultz & Larsen. If you're looking for brass, try Henry at Budget Shooter Supply. I picked up a generous supply of 7x61 S&H 'Super' and 358 NM.

EXACTLY.

It's not someone that just owns a few .22's and a bolt action .30-06...it's someone who owns one or more guns, but feels "other guns should be banned from ownership".

It's not the old guy shooting a single shot blackpowder boomer from before the turn of the century...it's can be the Trap guy who owns 5 shotguns, but believes some of us should be jailed for owning a 12.5" Grizzly 870. Or maybe the bullseye handgun competititor who thinks no one should have Glocks or 1911's. Or the bolt-action guy who thinks the M-14 shooter beside him is putting his own rights in danger of being revoked...even though they are both using the SAME caliber rifle.
