Tired of being called a "Fudd" ...........

Years ago, when I lived a little north of you in Wells,

No complaints on the accuracy

Wells eh?? That explains a lot! LoL :D An old hippy or a placer miner?

That Barkerville-Wells country is some of the most beautiful in the world. It's too bad they have 9 1/2 months of winter. ;)

Accuracy? Yes there is a very good reason the Schultz & Larsen sold for more than 2 1/2 times as much as a Winchester Model 70 Deluxe during that time period. :)

There is also a good reason why Roy Weatherby copied the multi-lug design and gas ports in the bolt when he moved production of his rifles from Schultz & Larsen in Denmark to Germany to lower costs! Schultz & Larsen started production building target rifles. It was Sharpe who convinced them to build sporting rifles for his company. Even today the current production S&L rifles stresses quality above all else!

Those cross pins have me curious.
First time I have seen them on a Schultz?

Nearly every early S&L was unique due to being 100% hand-built. Some had cross-bolts and others had Schnabel forends while some had both. The thing they all had in common was pride in workmanship which is very evident when you handle one. The term "buttered-glass" comes to mind when you work the action of one of these rifles.

Mr. Larsen however was an eternal tinkerer and it seemed he was constantly "tweeking" every rifle that left his factory.

Back to the OP...if your a "Fudd" then the other side of the firearms spectrum would be tacktikid...:D

I know. The whole Fudd thing was a joke to poke some people - who take themselves way too seriously - in the eye.

I own firearms.

I enjoy firearms.

I love the beauty and engineering embodied in firearms.

I love the versatility of firearms ; they can be used for sport, self-protection , and to supply food for the family. I love the way they smell and the way they feel in the hand.

As a tool I think mankind reached the pinnacle of development when the self-contained cartridge was perfected to use in a firearm.

WHAT IS USED TO PROPEL A BULLET DOWN RANGE MAKES NO FRIGGING DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER!!

There are no "good" guns and there sure as hell are no "bad" guns. There are "good" people and there are "bad" people". A firearm - regardless of what it looks like on the outside - is the great equalizer in our society today.

Guns don't have "morality" only people behave morally or immorally.

Pardon my deviating from the primary topic at hand but my time at the Wells Barkerville is basically pre-hippie and from the pre-metric era:p. Actually, one of the last surviving residents of Barkerville. In '55 we moved from downtown Edmonton to downtown Barkerville, just prior to it being designated a park and historic site. That experience was like moving from a concrete jungle to a gravel pit but after two days, you couldn't have pulled me out with wild horses!! I loved it! We lived there, renting my aunts house for about five months at which time we moved to Wells. You're right, the winters are a little long, 10 months of winter and two months of poor snowmobiling:p which helps explain my lack of swimming skills:redface:. Great skiing and snow shoeing though. My sister and I still share ownership of the family cabin at Bowron Lake which I used for my yearly Moose hunts until area 5 went on draw. And last, my son moved back up that way, close to where you are, Horsefly and they love it there. Again, sorry for robbing your thread.

Again, sorry for robbing your thread.

No Problem Johnn!

The mother of a friend on mine was born and raised in Barkerville. (She was a Thompson - daughter of the fellow who the lake was named after in the Bowron chain.) She told me she had a tough time adjusting to the "big" high-school in Wells as the other kids teased her about coming from the small village of Barkerville! I guess once again everything depends on "point-of-view". ;)

When I moved out to BC from the flat-land in the mid-1970's Wells was a haven for the hippies who just loved the welfare policies of the then in power NDP. Money every month for children, goats, and dogs! Life was good for a while until the circus ended and the new provincial government thought most people should actually work for a living rather than exist solely on the charity of others. :)

When we moved to the 'big smoke' of Wells, we lived North, across the street from the 'old High School' which I remember being tore down, about where the play ground is now. The present 'school' is just to the west of that now.

On a Moose trip up there back quite a few years ago, sitting in the Jack 'O' Clubs having hotel a few wobbly pop with a few of the locals, they related stories of a number of hippies that died in their shack at the west end of the Jack 'o' Clubs during a cold winter. I guess comunal living isn't all it's cracked up to be and the cold, amount of snow and the duration of winter definately doesn't mean paradise.

The last few posts certainly brought me a chuckle or two!!:D:D
Thanks, guys.
I am in the "older" age group as well, and can relate
to many of the goings on of that era.
Eagleye.

Perhaps, but the guy who is willing to have handguns and ARs banned so that he continue to hunt deer once a year with his '94 Winchester is a bit of a problem IMHO; antis come in many forms. The whole Fudd thing points out the divided nature of the recreational firearms community, "My gun is good, but I don't like the look of yours so it should be banned." We need to agree amongst ourselves at least that there are just guns; there is no such thing as a good gun or a bad gun.

Well stated sir! I completely agree.

This this this this this!

I'm getting partial to nice wood and polished deep bluing, but playing AR barbie or shooting pistol deserves just as much support as the rest of the shooting sports and culture.

United we stand.

The sphincters of emotional excrement would like nothing better than to ban those peoples' so-called assault rifles and those other peoples' so-called saturday night specials before they start with your so-called sniper rifles. They already want your semi-auto hunting rifles and shotguns.

"Nobody needs..." has no limits with these people.

Maybe they weren't as close as they profess to be... Could have forsaken the charcoal for free love and lived to smell another day.
