I'm going back and forth on wether to reload .40s&w. I already load 9mm and I used to load 45acp. Can any one that load 40 cal share wether it is worth it. (savings wise) thank in advance.

I reload 10mm... That's pretty close to .40 ;)

I'd say it depends on how much you shoot and what you like to shoot, for me I bought a hot rod and that's what I expect it to always be so FMJ and HP moving really really fast are all it ever see's... No cheap plated or lead bullets are up to that task and the bullet is where the bigger calibers add $$$

Plated bullets, range brass, bulk powder, bulk primers... Should see rounds down range for 60%-75% of factory fodder...

If your loading on a single stage that may not be worth it for you.

Using the calculator I can make 1K of 9mm for $158.46. In comparison, Winchester USA costs me $280 per 1K. As you go up in calibre, for the popular cartridges, your saving should increase.

To the OP. Are you kidding us? You already reload 9mm and .45 and ask us if reloading .40 is worth it?

:slap:

Silly foo. You should save at least $6/box or $12/100 rounds. Do you shoot 4-500 rounds a year? If so you just paid for the set of dies and shell holder in a year.

If you shoot more than a few boxes of centerfire ammo a year, OF COURSE YOU SHOULD RELOAD! :D

ouuuch!!!

It's my opinion that reloading isn't cheaper, because you just shoot more.

Everyone likes to chime in with this same statement every time someone asks about the value of reloading and frankly I think it's a bit cliche and not as applicable as people like to think it is. Sure you might shoot more, but another guy might not. Now that I'm reloading .308, I'm still only shooting 1 or 2 boxes of ammo in a given day. Given the need to let the barrel cool between shots and my shoulder only wanting to take so many kicks in one afternoon, I am not shooting any more ammo than I would have if I was paying for factory ammo. I'm just paying less for it.

I realize the statement has some truth in a lot of cases, but I think just pipping up to tell someone they won't save anything is a waste of time.

Yes, you will save money on .40 reloading. Every box you shoot will be cheaper. Voila! You're paying less for ammo. Whether your annual ammo budget has changed is irrelevant. You're saving money per round. That's *saving money*. Enjoy it.

Thank you.. I agree 110%

Reloading is fun. Even if I only saved a bit of money, I'd still probably have gotten into it. I don't imagine I'll ever buy factory ammo again apart from 22LR and the occasional factory box if I'm going to start shooting a new calibre. I like to have a box or two of factory as a baseline before I start shooting my own loads to see how far off the factory charges I am.
