To night sight or not to night sight....that is my question!

i have night sights on the majority of my guns, shooting *DPA style shooting in a poorly lit indoor range the benefits of nights sights is quickly apparent.

they are cheap insurence.

- and when your batteries run down, and you don't have night sights...?

I consider my Gen4 Glock22 to be my go-to, SHTF gun. I want to know that it's 100%, all the time, useable under all conditions, no battery checks required, etc. I have several handguns, but only one genuine SHTF piece...and it's the only one I have (or require) night sights on. If I had a dozen Glocks, I'd only need one of them to have night sights...for the aforementioned eventuality.

I would honestly have to say that my only reason for getting them is for the cool factor I guess. I asked because I wasn't sure if I should get them. The truth is that all my shooting will be at an outdoor range in daylight.

I have shot in the dark and acquired sites in the dark. I will tell you all this, when you are forced to shoot under stress sights won't do anything for you. When we train a large majority of our shooting is dynamic. Point in direction and shoot. 9x out of 10 you won't miss even when you shoot without lining up target.

So I guess for my use I will avoid them for now. Thanks again for all the feedback

I've got Trijicon sights on my G-17, and standard post and aperture or 3-dot on every other pistol, and i far prefer night sights. Not for cool factor, not for tactical tasking, they are just easier to see and aquire a sight picture on, granted they are effectively acting as a 3-dot on a bright range day, but i live on vancouver island, its dark here for 9 months of the year...

I just put some warren tactical/sevigny sights on my g17 and theyre amazing!!! No good for night, as theyre a fibre optic front. I like them much better then my three dot night sights on my sig. Although if youre shooting at night? Or low light night sights are where its at.

So my m&p 9mm came today standard no night sights.

My glock I have the option of night sights of not.

I can understand my work gun and shooting in dark situations, however, for my range guns do I really need night sights???

we are talking about 100.00 difference for the glock.

I have tru glo fiber sights on my m&p and I love them. They grab the light really well. Actually before I got them I took a red sharpie and colored in the front sight. Worked gret until my fiber sights came in.

I did it cause I found Trijicons on sale for cheap, plus I wanted to learn how to change iron sights. You wont need them, but they're fun to have.
