There comes a time in most everyone's life when they have all their coin tied up and they need to pull a "Grace Bartell" liquidation.:( There also comes a time when you have gathered a battery that you figure you will be happy with for all time and will "never" sell.
Well I am tapped out in both situations and am not sure what to do. Should I sell this little varmint/ whitetail rig?

I'd keep it for the kids but it is a bit heavy for them to lug around and IMO a 6mm Remmy isn't a caliber to learn to shoot big game with as compared to my 7x57. The same case but a bit more bullet and very tollerable recoil in an easier to carry package seems wiser to me.

It almost sounds if I've made up my own mind as I type this. The tough part is I really love this rifle. It is cool to see grown men slobber at the sight of the lumber! :p

I guess I just need a shove off the fence one way or the other before I do something I regret down the road. There will always be another gun, but it's hard when you get attached.:bigHug:

What do ya think?

Don't sell. Right after its gone, you'll be kicking your butt. Not too long ago I picked up a very nice 1908, all original in 7x57Mauser. The main reason was the quality of the action, which I thought it would be a great basis for me to use for a 'project' gun. However, I've been 'urged' not to even consider altering it. I'm sure that if I do use it as a basis for a custom project I'll regret it. So far, I haven't.

No doubt a fine looking stock and a nice caliber, so what? Guns come and guns go. If you need to raise some cash sell the gun, I'm as big a gun nut as any body lucky for me I don't have a financial crisis, but if you do, sell that gun and get out of your financial problem.FS

Never sell a firearm which has for whatever reason achieved "special" status.

Always, without exception, you will regret it.

Trust me on this. It took me 30 years to finally learn that lesson.

Wow, thanks for the huge feedback guys! I am used to having my rifles fitted with QD rifle rings with irons for back up. But really, I have yet to honestly say I HAD to pull the scope off more than perhaps twice in 14 years of hunting.

When I saw the rifle, first thing I said was too bad it wasn't a 7x57, and I'd never had anything to do with the cartridge at that point! Funny you guy's mention that. You have read to many of my posts and know me inside out! LOL

In this case I think you should keep it. It is a special rifle to you, and you won't get what you feel it's worth if you sell it, I'll bet.

Good luck - Jeff.

Noel, when I'm thinking about selling a gun I go through some questions.

Why do I have this gun? What is it's purpose or potential intended use? What else do I have that will do the same job?

What is it that I don't have now that I want more than this gun? Would I rather have it than a rifle I don't use much?

Does this gun enhance my quality of life just because I own it? Does it make me feel good to own it?

As a man I know says, "Sometimes in life you just need to have nice things." This rifle falls into that category and if you love it then keep it.

If however the answers to the other questions are "no" or aren't clear then sell it and buy something you really want.

Hi Noel.
I think your rifle might be one I sold at the 2001 Calgary show for a buddy who needed to finance some other projects. If the Serial Number is B 64XX it for sure is.
Some of his usual trademarks are the slim extended wrist, the Neidner type grip cap and butt plate often with a matching peak on the fore-end tip, and made from scratch one-piece rings and bases.
He does excellent work, as can be seen from your photos and I've been really pleased with a couple he's done for me.
You'll be sorry!!!!!
Regards, DaveF.

Hey Dave,

You nailed it! But I got it from Wholesale sports, not the gunshow. Brad likely picked it up to flip it. They told me an Old Feller had it build then died and his family put it there on consignment. Mind you I trust them as far as I can throw them, and that ain't far with my feeble pythons!;)

Where is this Greybrook Custom shop located? I've never found any info on them.

I had plans at one time to bore it to 280 Ackley and even 300 H&H. The second would likely boot me around and the love would soon be lost and the investment was too big.

The 6mm is alright for up to Mule Deer but it is heavier than I like to carry in the hills. She needs to go to Herbal Magic to loose a pound or a bit more.
