To those T97NSR owners with a barrel "gouge"

Guys you may need to fire a few rounds out of your rifle before the gauge appears, at least that was my brothers experience. His rifle looked fine no gauges nothing then he took it to the range fired 200 rounds when he returned home the gauge was evident.

North Sylva, I can't send a PM because CGN is throwing an error that you've exceeded your quota and need to delete some messages.

Looking at it today, it looks as if the barrel is pinned to the receiver. Could that mean swapping it out may not be that difficult to do?

Dun dun dun...

I've got a gouge after a few more rounds

I really wasn't worried about it tho.

What impact will this bit mark make?

I'm not being facetious, I'm asking because I really don't know

Have retailers been notified of this defect and have they been advised not to sell any rifles with this defect?

What kind of solution have you proposed to retailers who might have t97s with this defect for sale?

I want to buy a t97 but I'm scared I will get a lemon now.

Still no answer to this very important question!

so this over drilled gas hole will go through to the barrel, and there will be a gouge in the barrel itself on the bottom side?

That's where I found mine. I'm not concerned about it but I'm starting to think I should be maybe... I dunno.

Honestly, I have mixed feelings.

It will not affect function, accuracy, reliability and can't be seen without effort. For those that talk about barrel degradation: let me point your attention to the hole right through the barrel of every semi centerfire you own. I'm sure the barrel gas port isn't done until the barrel is mounted and this means it is done after chroming on every gun. I've seen no reports of degradation at the gas port of any gun, thus I assume it is a non-issue. Accuracy is not an issue as it occurs no where near the critical area, the crown, and the barrel is straight.

Having said that, I had a look, and I can't see any issue in mine. If it had it, (it may, I may have to shoot more and look again, only 120 rounds through it) I would feel righteous in getting some freebie or fix from the importer, just on the principle of a manufacturing defect deserving such.

Then again, they all shoot great, even the ones with a big chunk missing...
