I was watching a show the other day on how people manage to remove themselves from the gene pool either by freakish bad luck accidents or by outright Darwinian methods.

In one instance a Talibanger sniper took up a position hundreds of yards from his targets in Afghanistan - some oblivious CIA types supposedly. He put the dope on the scope, pulled the trigger on his .50 cal cannon - and sent the bullet on its way.

He missed.

The bullet supposedly hit high on the armoured vehicle behind the men, bounced off a mud hut, and returned along the path from whence it came and sent our taliban friend off to pick his 72 raisins!

I don't believe it anyways. It would be a nice story if it were true though...and if it were true I would probably nominate the shooter for a posthumous Order of Canada medal...! If it were true...it might be said that both God and bullets move in mysterious ways.:)

I could see it happening. Did you see the video on YouTube where the guy was shooting a plate from a bench and it ricochet back and shot his ear muffs off? Scary!

And why's that? Because I picked them having a 50cal rifle as the unbelievable part?

If you've seen the vid flying pig is talking about its obviously possible. Hell stranger things have happened.

But adding that the Taliban are using a very expensive and very hard to aquire rifle to an already unbelievable story makes it obvious that it's bs. People always include this kind of detail on made up stories because the 50 is so "scary".

But anyway back on topic. I was watching that show 1000 ways to die on spike before and they had some similar types of stories honestly those shows like most "reality" shows I gotta say is fake.

The taliban make a lot of drug money. They could spare $10,000 to buy a rifle. They also have night vision optics.

Hmm never thought of that. My bad.

Guess that'd explain why the Taliban troops always have the latest NATO level gear, not just world war relics and commie leftovers.

That was the show Wayne - apparently our boy had a Steyr 50 cal and that jives with a story I heard years ago where Iran was buying the big Steyrs and giving them away to terrorist scum like our buddies in Afghanistan. The sale to Iran enraged alot of gun nuts back then and got the boys at Steyr in some serious hot water too. I would be surprised if a few DIDN'T turn up in Afghanistan with the bad guys.

And - while I like picking on them and deriding them with contemptuous laughter...those guys are still formidable marksmen. They put the boot to the British, the Russians and now it appears it is our turn. For them to miss a shot like that is a fluke in itself, nevermind the two ricochets. It just smells of wishful propoganda to me.

Lol ok I figured it was that show. There was one episode where they were talking about some gov agents botched assassination attempt with a top secret suitcase laser gun at some coffee shop.

So I thought to myself. How does a network Tv show get details on secret gov killing missions with secret likely fictional weaponry? Gotta be baloney.

Errrr best one I heard was the old bugger who was raining death down on a compound in Afghanistan from 1300ish meters away... Seems someone noticed a "poof" of dirt followed shortly after by a faint boom... They figured out where he was held up and dusted the spot with a chopper... The mop up found a lone gunman, half hidden under a rock out cropping... Clutching an old .303.

SOF magazine had a write up pretty much the same as that where a dude held up a Marine convoy for almost a whole day while taking very accurate shots at them with a 303. Had pics of the gun at the end, don't recall if they got the guy or not. Re: the OP, yes some Steyrs did end up in Afghan (or "insurgent") hands after coming through Iran.

It's not uncommon to see footage in some of the documentaries of Taliban positions with some very very interesting things strewn about... Lots of green and brown cans with English writing on them.

This information is true. Numerous types of foreign arms made it into Afghanistan over the god only knows years of fighting and wars.
