Tokarev reloading

You can get similar speed without ridiculous flash using other powders. H110 works ok but using 13+grn charges makes a lot less sense than 7-8grns of other powders.

Wait. You want to make tokarev ammo WITHOUT the fireball? That doesn't sound nearly as fun...

I don't think you can push those bullets 1500+fps without a nice fireball regardless of powder. You can leave your welding goggles at home using HS-6, Longshot or CFE Pistol though haha. AA 7 and 9 are good too, HS-6 is the best common powder I have worked with as far as performance and velocity.

The Hornady dies have that sliding alignment sleeve to reduce the chance the bullet will seat crooked. I've been using a set of Lee's and having trouble with that. Maybe I'll get some spare time come winter to try it out.

Supposedly the Hornady die in 30 Luger will do what needs to be done without seating crooked.

Considering that a x25/.30 seating die would be nearly identical I am curious what it supposedly is that does that? Crooked bullets aren't a problem I have ever had with my dies adjusted properly.

I have a set of Lee dies for the Tok I was using in a Hornady Lock and Load single stage, and could not for the life of me get them to seat straight. I'd read on different forums to try the Hornady 30 Luger with the alignment sleeve, so I'd been keeping an eye open for them. (I mostly reload for rifle, so I wasn't looking too hard.) After trying it here this morning, I can vouch. 50 rounds, straight and smooth.
With the Lee seater, I'd hold it straight and in place as far as I could, but eventually would run out of room for my big fat peasant fingers. Whatever alignment it was in at this point is what it would be when it left the Lee seating die. That alignment sleeve on the Hornady seems to allow it to center to the die before applying pressure. I always figured it was just the bullet being so small that there wasn't enough pressure differential between the die side and the brass side of things to allow for alignment before the seating process starts. I use a RCBS die (no sleeve) for 9mm and I've worked with a set of Lee dies in 38 Smith and Wesson, and haven't had any alignment issues with any of them. Just always the damn Tok rounds were crooked. Stumbled across a forum years ago that suggested the Hornady in 30 Luger JUST for seating (while utilizing the Lees for sizing and neck expansion) and figured I'd give it a shot. So far, so good. Look straight, and measure up well when checked with the calipers.
Soon as I get some time. I'll pack them up with the chrono and try them at the range. See how things look.

Interesting enough I have been using lee 9mm setting dies instead of the 7.62x25 lee sitting dies because of the stupid crimp in that dies. Plus I didnt want to buy another die.
They have came really well and straight, then i use a 30 caliber crimp die.
I have loaded and shot about 50 rounds without any issues and im getting some good accuracy.
Has anyone use a chrono using titegroup with campro 85gr bullets?
Just curious on how fast they are going using 4.9grs of titegroup.

I did not go up to 4.9gr, stopped at 4.4gr and ended up with around 1200fps, I was trying to get a load that did not toss the brass into the next county.

Ya the brass definitely fly at 4.9grs but i only did 20 rounds to see if i could Replicate the big fireball you get using surplus ammo. Im staying with a medium load of 4.5grs of titegroup as my standard load.
I do like the looks you get shooting 7.62x25 surplus ammo at the range. Everyone there are like Jesus what are shooting lol.
Then i let them shoot a mag or two from my M57 and NP762.

I have some S&B for that, then I can shoot a few rounds and not feel like I have to clean the gun immediately.
