Had to laugh at a gunshow dealer trying to convince people it's a great first gun for a newbie. H#ll of a way to develop bad habits.... Good fun for someone ready for a hotter gun though.

Apparently they have a following in the concealed carry crowd down south. Good power and reliability in a slim single stack.
 
I find that I get the web of my thumb bitten when shooting a Tokarev. A replacement grip with a beavertail would make one a much better shooter for me.

That is exactly why I bought my beavertail grips. Aside from a Hollywood teacup grip I couldn't hold and fire the thing without getting the web of my hand chewed up fast. I tried the Tokagypt grips first and hated them, my only option seemed to be custom made.

I hope you got one before the ban. I just received a 9mm barrel and mags for one of mine. I hope to be able to get out and try it out next week. It will depend on how cold it gets.
 
I received my chinese type 54 Tokarev in the mail yesterday from Bullseye North, I like it, unissued just as they advertised.
I'm not convinced it has a chrome lined barrel, doesn't look like it to me, but I could be wrong.

With my hold on it the slide doesn't seem like it would rip up my paw but I haven't shot it.
I wouldn't mind different grips on it anyway and see these G03 grips that might be modified a bit to fit?

With those grips on a regular TT-33 and not the m57 or m70 the mag will insert about 1/2" or more up into the grips, and they will need to be modified to take the mag, I have a friend who just ordered a set for his Romanian and he will be doing the mods to the grip.
