Just came across a deactivated, 1943 Russian Tokarev on the EE, and the seller wants $350 for the thing.

Not that I want to buy it, but was just wondering if there could be something special about that paperweight that makes it worth almost twice the price of a fully functionnal, restricted TT33.
Not a rant about the EE ad, genuinely interested in the question. Could it have some kind of rare markings? I'm wondering why it was deactivated in the first place, but thats another subject.

thanks.

I think the only thing that drives up the prices on the deactivated guns is that unlicensed persons can purchase them. The call of duty types who haven't graduated to real guns love to have stuff like that in their bedrooms.

Might have some value to a unlicensed historical collector as well, but that one does seem a little on the pricy side.

The advantage of a deactivated Tokarev is that it is no longer a firearm so you could for instance leave it on your coffee table as a conversation piece.
It costs money to get a gun deactivated so add that on to the original cost and you are up to about $350.

I guess the math makes sense. Maybe its just a personnal thing, I can't picture myself ever paying more for a deactivated firearm than for a functionning one.

Yep. Exactly. The only thing I would consider is a deactivated MG or something we're not allowed to have, thanks to our 'enlightened' society. A WWII issue Thompson would look pretty awesome over the fireplace.

100% agreed.

Deactivators will likely be in high demand, once the next socialist government gets in.
That's if Justin will let us keep them, even if they have been deactivated?
