We have a bear problem in the small rivers in the area. The moose started having calves in the abandoned farm yards and tree lines in the mid 90’s and the bears have adapted following the rivers into the farmland. What’s your favourite bait, scope, gun, cartridge, bullet and methods?

If the bears are coming to the abandoned yards, I'd think to have line of sight on their approach routes. Baiting in a place where someone might drive in or picnic or "park" could be a surprise for all concerned. But a little spilled grain the way a combine or loaded truck might slop some out wouldn't be much of a difference.

Not a nuisance bear problem. They only move in the dark. They have decimated the deer population and the Coyotes have lost their home along the rivers, making them a brave hungry pest. Need to bait the
bears.

If you have a spare 12 million you could get the Federal Government to take care of the bears...

They will have heli's and suppressors, it'll be great.
Experienced local hunters with suppressors could do the the best job on pest critters, but the brainwashed do gooders out there don't understand
land management worth a hoot. Real stupid times we be in. Uuughh!

Every time I'm elk hunting we see tons of bears. Usually near standing canola or oats. I do my job by shooting 2 a year because that's what we are allowed in sk. To be honest I'm done skinning and eating them. I don't mind the meat but my family doesn't like it or probably doesn't like the idea of it. The meat usually ends up getting freezer burnt while we fill up on deer elk and moose. I'll probably keep killing them but don't feel great about shooting them, tagging them and leaving them but it is totally legal. If I didn't constantly have encounters with them I would quit for sure but as long as there is a surplus of them I will do my part to thin them out.

A you call them? Calf moose in distress?

We too have seen a wild increase in the bear population. Deer population is down but there are Lots of cats also. However those bears are mostly all grizz. So far our interactions with them have not been negative. They typically take off when yelled at. The worst is they can turn your yard and pasture into a ploughed field in an evening. From what we can tell they have put the hurt on the black bear population. Not nearly as many around.

The old snake mongoose trick. Just import some grizz.

your feeling the fallout from all the logging in FLC.
the bears are abundant in FLC and there isnt many hunting them anymore and add to this the mass logging, its created
a mess now.

bears, elk and wolves are being pushed out of FLC

the wolves/timber are living it up large now in the carrot river basin all the way over to you.
i hunt coyotes in the brooksby area and seen two timber wolves last year but couldnt take the shot.
they havent been seen this year yet.

i wouldnt be baiting bears at this time,as they should be hibernating very shortly or already have.
wait til spring, stick a barrel out with a cam along the river somewhere, then see what goes down.

It’s a sociological study imo, rural depopulation.
There used to be a lot more farmsteads in the country and most had a rifle in the porch ready to go. If a moose or bear wandered too far from the forestry it would soon be in serious jeopardy.
Mom, dad or kids all knew what the gun was for and how to use it.
