Too many guns??

My God man, what kind of question is that? This board has standards you know.;)
IMHO, too many singles. How about the single action Ruger in .44 mag or .45 Colt, then a S&W double action like a 586 or a Ruger GP100. Throw in a .22 LR semi or revolver and top it off with a 1911 original or decent clone. You'll pretty well have a good sampling of calibres and guns. You'll taylor make your list as you go on from there and start to find your preferences. Whatever happens, enjoy.

Now, where's that guy who asked if 60 was too many. I have to talk to him too!!

I don't have 60 handguns yet! My problem is too many calibers (I don't have anything in 44 mag and 45 LC anymore)

Take it easy guys! I am SURE he is talking about "too many guns" on one Visa bill. Isn't that obvious?

What I am thinking about:

Ruger Single Six Convertable .22LR/.22Mag 6.5" brl Blued - This one for sure
Ruger Blackhawk Convertable .357Mag/9mm 6.5" brl Blued
Ruger Super Blackhawk .44Mag 7.5" brl SS
Ruger Vaquero .45Colt 7.5" brl CC Blued

OK, I see the variety in calibres and that is all fine, but I would try to start out with less. Less calibres mean you can afford to buy bulk 500 round boxes (and save a bit) instead of 50 rounds of this and 50 rounds of that. Also, when you start reloading (and you will) your own ammo, it means you don't have to buy as many dies, conversion kits, gauges, powders, etc. Leave yourself wanting something new down the road. An excuse to go to the gun store to check out a new gun doesn't hurt either.

So, on your list, do get the .22LR for sure. Always cheap to shoot and great for new shooters and taking new shooters to the range. Everyone needs a 22 of some sort.

Next, I would get the 357. You can use cheaper 38 Special ammo and when you want the big bang put some 357 Magnum in. You can also find some commercial reloaded 38 Special ammo locally and save even more.

44 Special or Magnum will definitely cost a lot more to shoot whether you buy factory or reload. The more it costs the less you will use it. Of course it does have more bang.

45 Colt has much bigger holes and that is always a good thing. Makes it much easier to see the hole in the target from a distance. Costs will be much more than a 38 Special.

Check ammo prices at your local shop and compare. Would you rather shoot 200 rounds of 38 Special or 100 rounds of 44 Special or 45 Colt per range session for the same price? (or whatever the ratio is)

Why limit yourself and make a list? Read, surf and check out the guns you see at the range. Read and surf some more and check out guns at a gunstore and buy what tickles your fancy. ;)

Wow... too much thinking involved there! Read, surf, check... read, surf, check... oh boy. Try this one --> read a little, play at store, BUY! Quick and painless! :D

Also, Matt, I see you are in Langley, like me, so do come out to the Boston Pizza CGS night this Friday in Surrey. Come and meet a few fellow CGN and CGS members and talk about it. There is a thread on it in the "Events" forum. You can even buy me a beer! :D

Been doing some thinking. I want a semi-auto, and have not gotten the Beretta from the CFSC training course out of my mind since handling it. Here is my For Sure list:

Ruger Single Six Convertable .22LR/.22Mag 6.5" brl Blued
Beretta 92FS 9mm

These are still maybes. I'm thinking one or the other as they will be expensive to shoot compared to the 9mm & .22:

Ruger Super Blackhawk .44Mag 7.5" brl SS
Ruger Vaquero .45Colt 7.5" brl CC Blued

I'm also now interested in a Marlin as well as a Henry .22 rifle.

I think I have to many guns and not enough time.
I load for every caliber beside .22lr and I am slowly loosing track.
But it is a good headache. :)

start with one of every type in a common caiber, ie 1 sa rev, 1 da rev, one auto, 1 bolt act rifle, 1 lever rifle, 1 auto, 1 pump shotgun,1 dbl barrel shot gun 1 auto, then check for anything cool that looks like a good deal, then repeat process with different calibers and makes until safe is full, buy bigger safe, repeat until bankruptcy and divorce are iminent, stop for a while and shoot some of them.:runaway:

Matt do you shoot the ones you have? Do you watch the other shooters & want to try there stuff? I have far too many, seldom shoot them & have no desire to get rid of them. Once gone they are very hard to replace, money just vaporises. .02 AJ:wave:

I only have four handguns and I want to thin out my collection, but then there are Beretta 92F; 1911 in .45; G17 in OD; Steyr MA1 in 9mm; Ruger Mark III standard 6" and ofcourse I need a .40 etc.......Haven't bought yet:D

What should I do? The only way to solve the " TOO MANY" problem is to buy more.

God bless shooters without enough green in the pocket.

well if you wanna get rid of some Ill give u a good price on the .44

Wow, this is an old thread from before I even had my licence. I never did get a .44, but plan to get a S&W Model 29 when I get the money.

Matt do you shoot the ones you have?

Yes, though I just sold my Ruger Single Six because I didn't shoot it too often and want to make room for a .44. I try to use a different gun or two or three each trip to the range.

Buy as many as you can safely store and maintain. Better to spend a little more on quality than quantity as well. Don't forget all your other financial responsibilities too.

Someone's been digging out an old thread here. Funny how things change, no license, no guns, and the list is all wheel guns. 9 guns later ( by my count anyway), and there's only one revolver left, the rest are all auto's. We started at the same time M_A_T_T, I thought we'd be roughly the same pace, but I'm happy so long as I've got half as many as you. As it is, my credut card bill shows up every month in a redhot envelope, I don't want to know what yours looks like

Unless of course living at home really saves that much :p

M_A_T_T, time to you get yourself a larger safe so you won't have to sell the ones you don't shoot enough to make room. ;) :D
