An airforce buddy's teenage son was taken to the Bonnyville range today.
He is 15 and got to try out for the first time, a Star Model F, a .22 LR semi-automatic pistol, a S&W revolver Model 64-3 in .38 Special, with a six inch barrel, as well as a factory stock, Colt 1991A1 in .45 ACP.

What amazes me, (and I've seen this before with my nephew too) is these computer gamers, really have a quick grasp of basic marksmanship.
By the end, at 10 yards he was keeping all 45 bullets in the black, using the modified Weaver stance?!?!?
He did pretty darn good with the 38 as well. A quick learner this kid.
This is his very first day shooting any kind of handgun.

yea Nintendo Duck Hunt did wonders for me as well. My Step Dad couldn't believe it when he took me out shooting for the first time so many years ago. Never shot a shotgun before and hit every skeet he threw out for me after the first three misses.

Has nothing to do with computer games and everything to do with the instructor!!! Aiming a firearm is not rocket science.

I'm not sure I agree with the rocket science part, especially after watching holes appear in my target when I wasn't even shooting....

Almost all new shooters make the same basic mistakes. You can attribute most of it to flinching, and pulling the muzzle down. I like to load the weapon for the newbie, and hand him an empty chamber without warning. It's quite a shocker when he flinches, and there's no bang. Dry firing is essential, and cheap.

I'm skeptical about video games being useful for anything, including shooting, but I've heard the US military uses them as a training tool. Probably effective at de-sensitizing a shooter to outside influence.

I don't know about this whole video game thing...I'm pretty good at Call of Duty but I can't shoot a pistol to save my life! :p (well, maybe I could if it was to save my life but I can't hit paper for sh*t)
