Here's a new way to travel inconspicuously with your "Tools"....

I apologize for the big toe in the corner....

Space on top when the lid is closed for some mags, ammo, etc.

Nice. I've got what looks like the exact same box for taking my Bren to the range. (When I could, that is:()

I use a Crappy Tire circular saw toolbox for my pistol range box. Two holsters and pistols, ammo and accessories all fit in nicely.

I have a similar toolbox thing going on for Pistol transport. The inside is all lined with eggshell foam along the walls and floor, with a square of foam that goes on top of that making a second layer, then the tray is covered in foam. It's a great way to be inconspicuous. But for the $25 for the toolbox + 30 for the giant roll of foam I coulda got a nice pistol case anyway. The home project was fun anyway.

Sask, If I get stopped by a cop, it's easier to show it to him with the trigger lock on and get a nod, than to try to explain why it isn't a firearm.
+1 on that. I got stopped on the way back from Williams Arms (don't drift with firearms in the car), and it took 30 mins to explain to the cop that my AIRSOFT M203 wasn't a firearm, and even though "it's a replica" of a real M203, it's not a real firearm either, so it's not even a replica!

He was only upset initially because it didn't have a trigger lock like the AR15 it was attached to :(

Supervisor came by and laughed a little and let me go, without knowing what I was originally pulled over for :) No ticket for me!

Needless to say, she got a trigger lock from that point forward.

One look in the toolbox and you will likely get more than "the nod".:p

Inconspicuous. That is something I've always wondered about.

Guys like to get creative with their gun cases. Toolboxes, DeWalt drill cases etc. Now that is fine and dandy to hide what you are doing from Mr. Average Canadian, but what about LEO? If you get stopped, do you think it looks more natural to have your guns in a recognizable gun case? Ever wonder if someone may think you are up to something with your guns all hidden away like that?

I don't want to discuss legallities, as I am well aware that the type of loked container is not specified. I want to hear what people think about perceptions.

Just babbling out loud, anyone care to add their opinion?

An understanding LEO is going to appreciate an unobtrusive container. A suspicious one is going to be suspicious no matter how the guns are cased. All my cases are very conventional ones, hard or soft. My property is very private, so I don't have to worry about any "neighbours" watching what I load in the car, but if I lived in the wrong part of town, so to speak, I think unobtrusive would be the way to go. Any locked container is going to be attractive to thieves - if its locked, there must be something worth stealing in it - but there is no point in advertising that there are guns to be stolen.

Ever thought that a thief is more likely to steal a tool box then any other container seen in your vehicle, except maybe a purse?

If you really want to be inconspicuous, get a diaper or baby luggage bag. These things are huge, have multiple compartments usually lined so they don't 'leak', padded and some even have sturdy sides. You can of course build them up inside to suit your needs.

Believe me that no one will ever look in that for our toys. Throw in a kids seat in the back for perfect cover.

True, but a guncase that doesn't fit in a trunk and must therefore go in the backseat is much more visible than a toolbox that can get stuffed in the trunk and buried under a blanket.

If I'm stopped by a cop and he's suspicious about the container I'm using to store my firearms, well, so long as the rules are followed, and most importantly, the paper trail is correct (ATT's, etc) then there are no worries.

Yes, I've considered that toolboxes are the second most likely thing to get stolen (after radios) but this isn't left in the vehicle unattended and in plain sight, eh?
