I own a rimfire .22lr TOZ-78 Russian Made. Can any one inform me on what i can modify or upgrade on this rimfire so i can improve its quality?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks

Only modifications I've done are;
- tune up on one of the mags that didn't lock into the mag well
-oiled the un oiled wood inside the stock after removing the reciever/barrel
-honed the bolt where it slides in the reciever with a small stone
Probably the best thing though was installing a Williams FPGR peep sight and removing the rear sight. The Williams peep sight lines up nice with the hood around the front post and makes for a nice sight picture. A scope would probably be a good upgrade as well as these rifles are pretty accurate for a cheap gun.

I floated the barrel on mine as it wasn't totally floating when i got it and customized the trigger LOP and weight for me. Im considering mounting a scope but i dont want to remove the rear sight.

I free floated mine, tuned the trigger, removed the sights, polished up the bolt and mounted a scope.

I am currently still working on my toz-78.... its a slow project.

-Sanded and removed all checkering from the stock. painted candy apple red. (unfinished, still needs buffing and polishing)

-freefloated the barrel and installed a "home-made" Vq type bedding kit.

-removed front/rear sights.

- installed muzzle break.

-installed a small 2-7x20mm bushnell 'el cheapo' scope.

- stoned and polished the bolt.

- adjusted trigger

You don't have to with the right scope. I was able to put on a 3.5-10 X 36mm AO with medium mounts and still keep it pretty low.

I'll bet in the future there'll be a whack of Toz-78's on the used market missing their rear sight. I wish people would hang onto them include them with the guns when they go to resell them. My CIL/Anschutz 310 was missing it's rear sight as well as the peep sight missing on my Winchester 69a.

Come on Vince, you are going to have to do better than that if you want to be competitive in the competition!

Im kidding bud, practice is probably the best thing you can do to improve the accuracy of your TOZ.

That sure is some nice wood on those USA models.
On the first 78 I bought I floated the barrel. Put on a Bushnell 3-9x40 with Millet hi-mount rings. Took all of the creep out of the trigger and tuned up a really light pull, like 2lbs.
On my second 78 all I did was take the creep out of the trigger and left the pull a little heavier, like 4lbs.
If I get too bored, maybe I'll refinish one of the stocks in transparent black stain.

The Toz-78 is very popular. These are some pics of what people around the world have done with theirs.

the black one is that a nylon stock, or factory toz repainted?

I do not know how you managed to leave it at 4lbs, I cannot get mine over 2lbs:confused:

Well, I don't have a guage, so I'm just making a guess relative to triggers of known weights. If my heavier trigger is only 2lbs, like you say yours is, then my light trigger must be 1/2-1 lb. :) Very light indeed, and crisp too.
I should see if someone at my club has a weight guage the next time I'm there.

Nice to hear some chatter and enthusiasm re the TOZ-78. I wrote to ArmRus recently - haven't heard back from them other than confirmation they received my email - anyone know how often they get the TOZ-78's in ? (they appear to be out of stock at this time according to their website). I've also seen references to people picking these up for between $100~$175 ... is there some reason the price might have gone up recently (ArmRus list price is $272). I'd really like one of these and would be interested to hear if anyone knows of an alternate supplier... or should I just wait out for ArmRus?

Thanks -
Gray.

If you wait it out for Armrus - you'll be waiting a long time, they are no longer in business - the owner had some health problems. So the TOZ 78 is long gone, unless one comes up for sale in the exchange forums. I was going to buy one too, at the same time I bought my TOZ34 - now I'm really kicking myself for cheaping out ... and if one of those TOZ78s comes up on the exchange forum for the original price....I'll fight you for it:p
