Toz 8- Single Shot Rifles; Thoughts and Impressions...

Good old Toz 78s. I remember buying mine from them. Super accurate.

Next month I'll grab a TOZ. One with a 20 inch barrel would be cool.
I found a couple pics of my old 78's, the dark stained is a 78-6. Both quite nice little rifles.

Wow Intersuplus is fast.

Placed an order for a Toz 8m 9:23 AM
Received the RCMP REF 9:57am
10:01am got a shipping notification.

Def nicer than the old red, worn out stock.

Until I get a better rear sight, I have put a weaver dovetail mount sight on it. Unfortunately, with the bolt throw, I can not mount it fare enough back to be as effective as it could be. Likewise, the Aperture is almost 0.1" so it is also less than ideal... but for now, it is shooting OK. Again, all shots were CCI Std at 20 yards from a sandbag. On the page with 5 targets they were 10 shot groups; the other two were 5. Worst groups are the ones where I was not concentrating on the two stage trigger. Last night, I polished the trigger fulcrums and the receiver surface to smooth out the gritty take up, and added a shim under the trigger shim to reduce the pull a little.

Got my 8M in the mail today. The barrel was turned down and re crowned. The modified front sight is definitely intresting. Must came from a shooting club. As there is a name label on the forearm.

Had some surface rust around the rear sight. But for 270 shipped, I cannot complain.

The stock is nice though.

Between the two, you have a really nice, original condition, rifle. Fantastic stock, as nice as I have seen, on your new rifle. Great barrel with original front sight on your old rifle.

I would suggest putting the rear sight off of the new rifle on the barrel of your old rifle, along with it's original front sight, and put it in you newest stock. :)

Toz-8M rifles are a very good. I own 2 of them. Several of my shooting buddies compete against one another for fun withtheToz-8Ms. We use a variety of ammo. I stick with Winchester Target black bulk box .
I don't like the stiff bolt cocking . I keep the bolt handle well lubed for making it easier to #### it .
Trigger on one is nice . The other I use a Trigger assist . Dot reticle scope . These rifles have a place in the shooting community. Be well.

Thanks. I cut the sights off my old one, hence the rear peep. I like the profile of the new stock, and seems like it got a better trigger. So the lighter stock one is my new shooter. The old I may slap a scope or something.

Hey who know, I might get a 3rd, or a Toz12.

My friend has a 12, they are a very nice rifle. They do shoot good as well.

Never thought of mounting an aperture sight on the Toz . I have a sight that will fit and I'll try it down the road . Keep shooting be well.

I grease the bolts.

I had a spare Anschutz one, and It is NOT a direct slide on. The Diana I have mounted on the Toz, I had to open up a little.

I've have a couple of 8Ms, a 17, and now have a 8-01. It's pretty high-tech, with a safety and all.

Was also thinking about putting a Williams sight (they have a couple of options in the FP range, which bolt on to dovetails). As in the case of Meroh, you pretty much have to install them ahead of the bolt, so you lose a bit of sight radius and distance from your eyeball isn't the best.

One very helpful option for ####ing is a bolt ball. The Amazon cheapies may work, but i just picked up a Hornady one from Cabelas. Fits perfectly and cushions the hand very nicely for longer shooting sessions.

For such a simple design, they do shoot very well. This latest I've only had out a couple of times, but shooting scoped at 50m it is capable of sub 3/4" groups easily with a bunch of different ammo, and the odd sub-1/2" 5-shot group too (SK Std+). The Rooskies continue to provide Canadians with rough but good quality firearms! Happy shooting.

On my toz 8m:
Just the post itself is 8mm.

Looks like you still have the original sight ramp. The top of the post is 9.5mm from the top of the sight ramp.
