KAMLOOPS — A Vancouver man is dead after an accident at a Kamloops shooting competition.

Kamloops RCMP say the man was participating in a pistol competition at the Kamloops Target Sports Shooting Complex on West Trans Canada Highway yesterday.

Investigators say the man lost control of his firearm and it fired a shot into his torso.

Bystanders administered first aid until BC Ambulance attendants arrived and rushed the victim to Royal Inland Hospital.

He was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police have identified the victim as a 50 year old man from Vancouver
 
Lesson in safety and accidents. An and will happen. I do not know what happened but it reminds me of my number one rule because it's not said enough. If you loose control of the fire arm, trip or stumble. Drop the gun!!! Do not try to save it or recover your grip.

Condolences, its good these are rare but when that happen it's a time to reflect.
 
This demonstrates that safety is paramount and needs to be taking seriously by everyone from novice to veteran.
 
My condolences to the family and my sympathy go out to all involved.
Hopefully factual information and not conjecture will come out in the days/weeks ahead so everyone can learn from this tragedy.
