Trail cam pics

Yup, great bear pic, I guess you have your cam set pretty low on the tree?

Its set about 30" from the base of the tree. The ground slopes away from the camera. Get a lot of these.

This camera is only about a foot off the ground over slopping ground.

By the looks of the spikes on the ramp in the background he or his friends have been there before!

Precautions must be taken . . . the cabin used to belong to a pal of mine, he forwarded the trail cam photos to me. When he sold the place, he advised the new owner to put the nail beds down when the cabin wasn't in use. He didn't and it got trashed. Too bad, it was a nice place.

WOW!! Is that damage from bears? Or other 2 legged varmints?

Never heard of putting down a nail infested drawbridge, but I like the idea...

Once in a building, bears aren't particular about being neat and tidy. Nail boards are a way of life around here, sometimes they help, sometimes they don't. Sometimes if they can get a claw in behind a shutter, that's all it takes, and their in, while the nail board lies untouched 3' away.

^^^ at least there is the odd daylight shot, so there's some chance of seeing them. All that may change for the hunt of course!

When the rut comes in and the does get involved, it can go either way....... Either the Bucks entice them onto their trail or they follow the doe trail......... It's all a big gamble and all a lot of fun....... I can't wait.....

Trail cams are a great tool for scouting. Gives deer numbers, and approximate areas/times at least. I'll be using them during the hunt as well. See which stands are getting the action.
This time of year I also use them to scout possible new stand locations.
A few people like to come back to camp early, and the cams will show what they missed. Maybe convince them to stay out longer.

These guys are pretty much all nocturnal right now. It's understandable, as there's a cucumber field right across the gully, and theres people in there daily, machines running, etc. But when the season starts all bets are off, I'd love to get that big guy from the first pic beneath my stand!
