Transfer times in BC

In my experience you need to request an email notification at the time of initiating the transfer, otherwise they default to mailing it and it doesn’t show up for a week or two later. Maybe this didn’t happen during the consignment process.

Is there a phone number for the BC CFO's office? I have been waiting a few weeks on a transfer to me in B.C. on a handgun I bought from a business in ON. I called the CFP 1-800-731-4000 number and spoke with someone but all they were able to tell me is that the transfer is awaiting approval with the BC CFO, wasn't given an option to speak with that office directly to try and complete the transfer. If there is a direct line to the BC CFO I'd love to get it.

1-800-731-4000, 1, 1, 9530

As per my post and jacotsmith 1-800-731-4000 then 1, 1, 9530

9530 is the BC CFO extension

Pretty wild that everything is so backed up, but then people call in and get all their pending transfers completed on the phone in minutes(if and when they get through)...... it sounds like calling in and tying up phone lines and people is the only way to get transfers done "quickly" ?

What a bizzaro way to run a s h i t show.

Still waiting for a June 24th purchase. Maybe transfer coming soon…

My June 1st buy took 2 weeks for a transfer.

Called for 30 min without getting through, then I got on hold for 45 minutes, and a very nice lady answered and approved 2 July transfers in 4 minutes. Thanks for the info on calling! Worked like a charm.

Yeah I had a gun go from paid to in a buyers hands locally within 5 days last week. It’s hard to get through but works, most of the time. They don’t like doing it, some of them flat out say no, out of fairness to the process.

I have to say that I was just waiting patiently for my 2 transfers. I got one approved yesterday and since they were both called in on the same day in early June, I thought I'd call in to see why or what was holding up the 2nd one. I was also tempted to call because of all the reports here that that would "bypass" the somewhat delayed process. Well I certainly lucked out as the person I asked about it offered to complete the transfer and even sent an ATT so I could take it to the post office. It was a pleasant surprise but I feel a bit guilty for queue jumping.
This is encouraging though as I was holding off selling a couple 22 revolvers and a top end free pistol because I just didn't want the hassle of being on hold forever and then sitting with packaged guns for almost 2 months........that said, I'm not sure I want the headache again.

My impression from the conversation was that the person answering the phones was doing the transfers for those that called, and others were slogging their way through the stack. As opposed to "interrupting" someone who is going through transfers in the order received. Hard to tell exactly what "the process" is in this crazy season, and I'm not sure normal rules apply. They seemed to enjoy talking to people and were "glad I called." Just my experience.

Yes that was my take on the conversation I had as well.

I think a polite "good morning, thanks for taking my call" goes a long way to getting things expedited..

Thanks, that is probably what went sideways. The 9530 extension seems to be the right approach. I haven’t been lucky with the que, keep getting bumped or on hold for 15 and then bumped. Character building exercise, lol.

Seems to be what works though, after callimg and getting put on hold for 20 mins before the call dropped and I had to start again with my call attempts to get put on hold I finally had someone answer after probably 30 mins and she went ahead and completed my transfer on the spot for me, it was great.

Now to convince myself that buying one more is ok because it may be my last......

Indeed, you won the lottery. I have been trying the 9530 thing for a week now. The furthest I got was in queue for 15 min and got bumped. This should be an automatic process, because "it is 2022".;)

oops was responding to the guy that CFO told him to buy the lottery ticket. LOL

I just got my July 8th X5 Legion purchase approved this morning. 2x calls that were dropped at the 15 minute mark, one at the 30 minute mark, and one that I *HUNG UP ON* accidentally cuz iPhone lock button accidentally hit. Then I got through after a bunch of dud calls and a 23 minute wait. Tanya was very helpful even though she sounded absolutely overwhelmed and tired and approved while I waited.

My reference number was 596---. I called both 9530 and 2502, but I had better luck with 9530 actually.

Calling is probably the only way get it in a reasonable time; and I'm only calling after 4 weeks.

Anyone in B.C. with a recently approved transfer who DIDN’T call to push it through?
I can’t spend hours on the phone during work… thanks!

I just had a nice conversation with one of the agents for the BC CFO and was able, as the seller, to get an Alberta purchased transfer approved...She was sounding wiped out and some of it is due to arseholes calling in and 'going off' on them because of what the govy has done. Come on folks, take your frustrations out on the elected officials who deserve your wrath!

On a side note I asked how many folks they have working on the files and was told that there are currently between 10-12 folks doing the approvals for BC...The firearms officers are also taking on some transfers as well when they have time. The que in BC is currently around 4,000 and Alberta is sitting at around 10,000! She also mentioned that they are hoping to get caught up by the end of the month.
