Transfer times in BC

You can’t push a transfer through, ya wait like all the rest of us.
If you read the many posts above you will see people are calling in and getting their transfers approved. I call that pushing them through. I, unfortunately, do not have time to sit on the phone and will have to wait.

For the 5 transfers I’ve been able to “push through” so far, I haven’t spent more than an hour and a half on the phone each time. I have a job too, but I have found that if you dedicate yourself to keep hitting redial until you get though, finding something productive to do while you wait on hold and eventually get kicked off only to start over, once you’re connected it doesn’t take long. YMMV

Depends on your job. I work a desk job so sitting on hold is no big deal. I couldn't do that if I was still swinging a hammer though, my foreman would be screaming at me in 2 minutes flat.

I was hoping to just wait it out, but its been over a month and now I'm kinda worried they're holding it up due to not having an up to date range membership on file. Looks like I'll be spending the afternoon trying to get through to them...

Amazingly, both the seller and I were both able to get through (today) to the main CFC line to initialize and confirm a transfer. On the first call too, after about a 30 min wait for me, so some things must be getting better. So now the question is do I try and "jump the queue" with the BC CFO to get the authorization finalized? Expecting same day service seems rude given how long everyone is waiting. Ah, the good 'ole days. :)

You can just email a cellphone photo of your range membership, I can confirm it does make it to where it needs to go on your file, but you will be processed in whatever order they are following. Calling in bumps you to the front of the line.

And my other comment was more to encourage those who aren’t around a phone all day. If you tell your boss you have an appointment or something you should only need about 1.5 hours in my experience (with the BC office anyways). You shouldn’t have to wait ALL day on hold.

Anyone in B.C. with a recently approved transfer who DIDN’T call to push it through?
I can’t spend hours on the phone during work… thanks!

I bought one through Prophet River. They started the transfer and without any prodding on my part it went through in about 4 weeks. The registration certificate showed up in the mail a week and a half later, again without any calls made by me.

I had a private sale started June 15th. I had applied to renew my firearms license well in advance of that date and got the standard " it's being reviewed" on the website. I finally went through the 9530 extension after my license had not been renewed and technically expired. I explained the situation which the reply started as a lecture of "you can't do that with an expired license" .

I responded with "Excuse me. I applied for renewal long before I attempted the purchase and I have not received my renewal. I believed I was following protocol". From that point she was quite helpful and renewed my license and approved the transfer. Normally I would not jump the Que but the expiration of my license forced my hand. The transfer was completed August 8th and arrived yesterday.

I would suggest if you go this route be polite and have your information in order. All the people I have talked to at the CFC have been pleasant, even after the attempted lecture. They must be under a lot of stress and the issue we are all dealing with is not their doing.

It took multiple days of waiting on hold, but got it done yesterday. They told me they had everything on record including both buyer/seller range memberships. The would forward to BC CFO who would send me an ATT in 3 to 4 months, I was told if it didn’t arrive by November, to call them back.

When will I get the registration for the pistol? Before the ATT arrives?

well if you have a cell and bluetooth ear buds its possible to be on hold and still work but depending on your plan it might get expensive

Ok this whole thing is somewhat confusing I have a few transfers pending each from a different province all going to BC June 24 July 23 and july 26... 5955### --5977### and 5975### Im reading the posts and seeing others claiming that they have gotten their transfers in around those dates but I have heard nothing I tried to call a couple times spent an hour each on hold and got a message saying technical difficulties call back another time (after spending an hour plus on hold not happy) So Id thought they were just busy but it others have been approved for those dates then why was I not?
is there a difference between a personal sale and a store? mine are all stores. any help would be appreciated lol

From What I have read bc is around mid June right now.

Above posts say June 11 and June 16th were recently done. So maybe 24th will get done this week or next

Just my opinion and a smidge of experience - friends and family and I have restricted purchases strung out from June 1 to August 8th. My guess would be your June 24 will come in around the next week or so, but the July ones are a crapshoot whether thats mid september or later. After waiting 4 weeks we start sitting on the phone to try and get it done. Im not sure how organized the chaos is over at the BC CFO right now, but stuff is coming through all out of order if you go by reference numbers.

I did manage t get through to BC CFO and complete my transfer, which was about 8 weeks old. Four days, 24 attempts and numerous bumps after 15 to 30 minute hold time. The completed call was a 40 min hold.
It is totally luck of the draw getting answered.
The agent was obviously very tired and stressed. I thanked her for her help. They are overwhelmed and trying very hard to deal with all the paperwork generated. The only tool we have in the box is patience.
