I'm wondering , how long, generally, takes to transfer restricted firearms. The first gun I bought took me 3 days for the transfer. Now ,with the second, been a week and still in process.

Bought from a dealer Monday morning of this week, transfer complete/gun shipped Tuesday afternoon.
I've had 2 private transfers in the past couple months with 2-3 day wait times.

Ontario is not too shabby.

Ontario CFO has been good lately. Purchases from stores get approved within 24 hours.. Privately it is a hit and miss, but in my case, about 2 weeks on the last 3 transactions.

If your in bc, it will take up to 2 weeks.
Or you can go to the bc CFO office and get approved on the spot

I'll give that a try tomorrow and see what happens...I'll report back yay or nay on it.

**EDIT** They would not complete my transfer on the spot. However, the lady did correct an issue with my wifes RPAL (name misspelled).

Bought another gun , this time CGNer from Quebec . The transfer been initiated on the morning of November 28. 2 weeks already , still with CFO. Called them today, they told me to wait another 1-2 weeks :) Come on , how big the job suppose to be, to transfer one file from one to another folder ?

Sure interesting that there is such a spread of approvals in BC I just completed two transfers one from store competed in less than 7 days, the private sale took 3 days longer. But I see some other members are in the system at lot longer of which I do not understand the hold up! I did call into the CFO a couple of times on each transfer and found all conversations went very well, though I did get the feeling that the private purchase was just sitting in a pile as that employee said oh I see you have a long term LATT and she commented not sure why it had not been processed yet. I called the next morning and transfer was complete so I'm not really sure why the delays.

I would be certian however that soon someone outside the CFO office is going to confirm the amount of transfers that are occurring since the long gun registry went away and challange the length of time the transfers are taking.
Just my thoughts and insight.

Mine have been all over the place. My first in Oct/Nov was private, AB to BC, took about 5 weeks. Next in Oct was business, took 2 weeks. Most recent Nov/Dec, private BC to BC was 2 weeks.

My latest in BC is just over two weeks and counting but I did have one go throught to a fellow in just 7 days. I was very surprised with that. Mostly the private ones take from 2 to 4 weeks dealers seem to be half that time.

It took me two weeks to transfer something from BC to ON about a week ago. Better than last time, jerked me around for a month. First time was real quick. But then, the first time usually is.
