Trap Clubs

If you're in Vancouver just head up to a forest road and toss some clays

That would be great if they didn't close all the closest FSRs to recreational shooting like 6 years ago. From my last place in Coquitlam it was under an hour to hit gravel, and only 5-10min more to get to the shooting spots. That went up by 45 minutes each way with the closures, and that isn't factoring in the time spent trying to find a spot which can take a while due to all the people being funneled into the small handful of places still open.

That would be close to a 50% increase compared to our last trailer. We will definitely have to adjust our prices.

Thanks

We buy in fairly small quantities as we don't have storage space to buy a whole bunch at a time so our prices are not likely representative of what you can actually buy targets for.

Looking at our past costs: This is for a case of 135 targets.

2012 - $12.75

2018 - $14.95

2020 - $17.95

2022 Spring - $20.95

2022 Fall - $22.95

About rhe only positive for us, is that we are only three hours from the supplier, which saves us a bit on delivery costs. But we only buy 4-5 pallets at a time, so we try to coordinate deliveries with other clubs.

We're already getting targets from Ferguson but there not $22.95 anymore

No doubt. But like every other aspect of clay shooting and recreation in general at the moment, inflation is adding to the cost. What does your club charge a round ?

American Trap high dome, made in Italy. $24.99 on the box last fall. I'm not sure who was bringing them in, but i thought i was told Tom Ferguson, but not sure.

White Flyers from Tom are currently $25/case. A club has to sell them for $5/rd to just break even on targets. That gives your club zero profit to run the machines, maintain the machines, club grounds, buildings etc or replace the targets. Let that sink in when you complain it's costing you $7 or $8 per round as a member. I heard from a reliable source this week that Lawry's may be getting out of the game too. They have already given up their Kolar dealership. Rick Lawry is I was told turning 80 this year and packing it in. Man I'm getting old. I can remember dealing with his parents Bob and Judy when they were in their 70's just a few years shy of almost 3 decades ago...:sok2

Edmonton Gun Club opened last Sunday at $9.50 (up from $8.50] for a round of Singles.

Yes I was thinking we'll have to be close to $10/rd this year to keep the doors open and target supply replaced so instead of 4 rounds two nights a week I'll cut back to two rounds twice a week and as for registered I will be dropping doubles from the program and just shooting the singles and caps championship birds at larger shoots. I'll skip the smaller shoots and just shoot penalty classes.

Just a little update to this, I just received a quote for white flyer targets, in Oct 2021 we paid $16.95 per case + tax = $17.79 the quote I just got for Delivery next week is $26.40 / case + tax = $27.79 from the same supplier, the cost of targets alone just went from 0.13 to 0.21 currently our members pay $6 per round which is 0.24 per target, there is no way that you can run the club and pay all the expenses when you only make 0.03 per target, our club is strictly volunteer labor.

In the late 90's when I president of the North Bay Trap & Skeet Club we sold targets to members at $4.50/rd and non-members at $5/rd. Targets at that time cost us $13/case delivered. We had it figured out that that is what we needed to replace a case for each full squad of 5 shooters. That gave us enough revenue to replace the targets next order and have $ left for the club operating costs and over an extended period of time hopefully save for equipment replacement/upgrade as necessary. It took a long time to put enough together for improvements. The biggest money maker was the bar the club was licensed for in the early years. If it had not been for it in the early years I'm sure that club would have closed its doors long before I was prez.

We have our own issues with trap and skeet, as we are in city limits, next to the lagoon, and shotfall extends to where it leaves our lease, onto the lagoon area, where workers may be from time to time. We worked out a deal with the city, and they contact us, if an emergency comes up, so we don't shoot while workers are present. It has never happened, but we still had to come up with this arrangement, to keep our ranges open. While there are a few trap fields much closer, the next actual skeet club is over 200 km away.

I'd say we fall into that close to that distance from your club to ours in Lloyd.
