Trap Gun Dilemma

So this is my dilemma. I ordered a new Rizzini Fierce 1 Trap Combo and it has been a lesson in patience to say the least.

I'll back up a bit first. I purchased a Fierce 1Trap o/u last spring with the understanding I could bring it back at season's end and the dealer would sell it getting all my $$ back and being used as a full store credit as deposit on the combo I wanted. The dealer gave me a great deal. He ordered the combo at the same time I purchased the o/u. Delivery time was to be 5 months according to the US distributor.

Fast forward 5 months. Season is over, bring in my gun to sell. True to his word he sells my gun for what I paid. Full store credit is applied as deposit on the new combo. US distributor says delivery is right on schedule so by the time the gun comes from Italy, clears customs etc I should have the gun before X-Mas.

Well X-Mas gets pushed to April of this year. April comes and no gun? So I call the distributor myself. He says he only received the order three weeks earlier so it will be at least 5 months before delivery again!

So now I am peeved to say the least. It's been one year already and the dealer is sitting on almost $5K of my money!! So to the dealer I go to find out what the *€%# is going on?! He is in shock, he has seen the distributor back in January at Shot Show and is assured my gun will be in for start of the 2016 trap season. He pulls up and prints off all his email correspondence for the order with the distributor dating back to May 2015 to prove to me he has done his due diligence. True to his word he has. The US distributor dropped the ball or lied and never placed the order until April 2016!!

So in the meantime I purchase a used gun to see me through the season and here is where it starts getting really juicy. Two of my fellow club members have purchased Rizzini o/u's shortly after I purchased mine and one more fellow purchased one this spring. All three guns are now inoperable as after only an average of 2200-2500 rounds all three guns have damaged firing pins and are punching holes through any ammo using a cheddite primer. Two have been gone for warranty all summer and the other is probably going soon as well. The one I had the previous year was issue free.

Now the warranty becomes an issue. The US distributor dropped the issue in the factories lap in Italy and they tell my fellow shooters they are too far away to do anything about it?! Holy hell, they don't think we are too far away to buy them though? And these are not inexpensive guns. The first two were $5200 and the third $3000. My combo is just under $7000 and now I am having serious second thoughts?! It is going to be almost two years by the time I can shoot mine by the time it arrives and last thing I want or need is to lose another season to firing pin issues and warranty rejections!!

What are your thoughts? I am tempted to cancel the order and get something else through the dealer since he has my $$. I really had my heart set on this which is why I have been this patient but now I just want a good gun that is going to work!

Forgot to add. Delivery was again promised this time for August 2016. Well it's now August and though the dealer sent multiple inquiries the past two weeks no word on if my gun left the factory before Italian workers go on their August long sabbatical. Everything in Italy shuts down for the month of August. They have a statutory month, not day!!!
Supposedly there are also 24 guns currently looking for dealers in Canada but no word if mine is in that shipment either?! Talk about frustrating!!

And I realize in todays world of target guns $7K is fairly inexpensive for a trap combo but I am a blue collar guy who had to work, save, wheel and deal to order this gun. I just don't have the disposable income for a custom built and fit $15 -$20K US funds trap combo. For me this was a major purchase and a quite exciting one at that being able to save up to this point!

I had my beaters on one of those and then washed my hands right away.

You have 5k go get it back toss in a little more and get a 692 xtrap combo its a lot of gun for the money.

For me the issue with Beretta is I have never had one I could ever shoot with worth a darned so I have just stayed away from them for the past decade or so. But no denying they are a quality gun for the $$.

With the adjustable comb and rib IMO it would be hard for it to not fit you, could demo one at Calgary club they have a DT11 the hardwear is the same or closer silver willow might even have one.

With anything a chance needs to be given lots of ammo and some frustration.

Remeber you haven't shot your worst score yet.

Have you look at Guerini's? They are a good gun for the money. MD Charlton is the importer and they will offer the lifetime warranty as well as the pit stop program.

Personally with all the bs you have gone through I would get my money back from the dealer.

Geez don't say that!! Laugh2Laugh2 I was hoping that was behind me not ahead of me!! ;)

I have given the Geurini's some consideration, yes. Thanks for the info I'll look into it further.

You have been way more patient than I would have. Get your money back, find another seller and get a beretta, browning or cg, all within your budget.

They have really strung you along, move on or you'll end up with a lemon like your buddies.

cheddite primer piercing is a common problem for many makes of O/U, my Winchester Select included. Your patience aside- the piercing issue is not much of an issue- I just shoot winchester or federal primers and have not had a problem (and I do keep an eye on it). The rest of the story is far more concerning.

Like the others suggest, take the credit and buy something you can live with, a new Citori for instance. The other thing that caught my attention was this line

"All three guns are now inoperable as after only an average of 2200-2500 rounds all three guns have damaged firing pins and are punching holes through any ammo using a cheddite primer."

Coincidentally in another thread you were knocking my Akkar Churchill, which had more rounds on it then these guns, and had no issues with cheddite primers as throwaway junk. Everything breaks, interesting to find out the supplier won't stand behind the warranty.

I also did state that I never had any issues with the Fierce 1 I purchased last season. I only used ammo with cheddite primers on one occasion and didn't care for the ammo so never used it again. I had no idea at the time that the ammo I tried used cheddite primers until the others fellows had issues, I stopped using it because I didn't like the recoil from it. Its only from their guns having issues that are raising my doubts. I would assume even though they have different models that the internals would be the same? I can't imagine the company would run different firing pins of different grades? And yes the warranty issues are bothersome too. I sure don't want to have to send a gun to the factory in Italy for warranty coverage.

The dealer isn't the issue here, the US distributor appears to be the problem, as well as the manufacturer. I actually just placed an order for a 28 gauge 725 Sporting Clays gun from the same dealer this morning, and I am not the slightest bit concerned about having any issues. And I will be using up a store credit from a firearm that the dealer sold on consignment for me at no charge, as I have done multiple times in the past.

Yes, the dealer is not the issue at all. He has been very forthcoming in doing all he can. The problem is in the distributor primarily and factory not having a warranty centre in either the U.S or Canada. The dealer took it upon himself to have the other guns repaired at his expense. I am thinking I may get him to import something from another dealer stateside as he often does. I may go with an Etchen or Guns Unlimited exclusive? We will see after I speak with him in person.

What I am wondering now, is if the dealer will continue to handle the Rizzini line after these issues.
