Trapping Forum?

As a curious onlooker I have to ask:
For one with zero experience trapping, can one take the course here in Alberta, and upon successful completion, expect to make at least a part-time income, without the benefit of a 'permanent' trap line registered in the province??

want to know......

Edit: Great family memories there Dutch!
You are obviously a good dad.

My neighbor, a member of this forum, is a licensed trapper and has been trapping way before becoming a teenager......I wonder if he will chime in....
He has a huge trap line but only takes enough beaver to make his quota....otherwise he'll lose his registered trap line ......hasn't been much money in beaver for years...certainly not enough to justify the amount of work and expense that goes into it .

Thanks guys! For the near future I'm thinking the long hair species.
I have no idea if this is a practical or wise choice though.
My newby opinion is based on merely, my spacious garage for preparing/drying/storing hides from coyotes & wolves attained by mostly shooting, perhaps a few taken by nor'lock at nearby cattle ranches.
And a desire to take the trapper's course not far from here.
At a meager guess I'm thinking a registered trapline is unattainable for someone such as myself.
Now I'm going to lurk elsewhere using noneck180's advice.

Cheers..........

There was one on kijiji looking for 2 people to fill spots. I was looking because I would like to take a course in SW ontario. I think it was to start feb13 so you might have time to find them.

Canadian trappers talk forum is excellent lots of good people on there with plenty of knowledge to share. Glad to be a member there for sure and proud to be a trapper carrying on an other great Canadian tradition :)

+1 for the trappers forum! now whats this about trap lines and hand guns?? that would get me into the course a heck of a lot faster :D

Well, I just finished my Ontario trappers course. It was a great experience.
The course was held in Sutton. Anyone interested in the contact info PM me.
The course is only taught in the winter so, factor it in.

I'm +1 for a trappers forum. :D

Cool, I am Happy to see this sparked some interest. Hopefully taking the course when I come back. Thanks guys for the links for the other trapping forums, helpfull information.
Hopefully a Forum here pops up.

Good idea!! If there's a fishing and boating section, i don't think a trapping section is too much to ask :)
