trapping help?

I agree with Tazzy on this one! Please don't use poison of any kind to solve your problem. Trapping the cat or shooting it is the most humane method. Also be sure you can legally discharge a firearm in your area, or you may find yourself in more trouble than it is worth.

Also the fact that poisoning is illegal. The cat will crawl off and die somewhere, maybe on someones door step.
Cops get called and maybe they come looking for you.

I'm not saying I like cats, far from it. I just don't agree with that method.

Trapping and or shooting are the best methods.

My mother in law lives across the road from a cat lady....15 or more cats when I counted. They ruin the neighborhood. City won't do anything.

I suggested a 110 conibear trap in a martin box set but she decided against it.

Anti freeze is the stupidest and cruelest way to kill anything. Give your head a shake.

:agree:

You can catch that cat again. Make sure the livetrap is big enough for it to walk completely in. make sure you're setting it properly (bait behind the trip pan, not on it). It can help to cover the floor of the trap with something like cardboard or straw or grass so that the animal doesn't feel the wire on it's feet. Make sure this material does not interfere with the pan / trip mechanism. Use bait that the cat wants... tuna or sardines are good, but (if you can stand it) you can also toss a couple of other cat turds or litter clump of cat wizz from a strange cat in the back of the trap. That can work better than bait. Yes, you can / should cover the trap with branches, wood, etc. They like to investigate dark places like that (curiosity.....). After you catch it, take it to the SPCA or whatever as a feral cat. They will likely euthanize it. BTW - you can make the garden less appealing as a litter box by keeping the soil damp. They only like dry soil for litterbox. Good luck.

perfect thats exactly what im after, thanks for that. ill get something set up for that summa##### today, lets see how long it takes my dog to get in to it again, lol. ill put it at the mouth of the fence as i know he comes through there and cover it up. is the cat crap and piss a territory thing? do they mark like dogs do to establish their territory?

I completely agree. I once had a cat that was poisoned by it, if I ever confirm my suspicions, hell has no furry like a pet owner scorned!

was your cat poisoned on your land?

Reason i ask is i have had a few cat owners get very angry with me when my dog catches their cat and rips it to pieces.

Funny thing is this always happens in my yard , these cat owners when they get pissy get told to fxxk off!

If you keep your pet at home or at least try to, it sucks that someone poisoned your cat.

If you let your cat run free you only have yourself to blame!

Yes, they do mark their territory, and a local cat will always be interested in a stranger. If the bait gets too rank in warm weather, skip that part (cats don't like spoiled food). Forgot to mention that you can hang a grouse/duck wing or turkey / gull, etc feather in the back, and sprinkle a few smaller / downy feathers around the trap entrance to make it more interesting.

i cant shoot the damn thing i have one neighbor and he keeps hanging out facing his house and i havent been able to get to the air rifle in time to catch him.

ill try the feather idea, ive got a buddy who goose hunts ill see if he has some feathers i can take from him, or maybe ill pop that robin out of its nest and use him as bait in stead. all great ideas thanks guys.

i also agree, if you have a pet thats released like this and he meets his end theres no one to blame but the owner. i do my best to keep my dogs in my yard, sometimes my puppy finds a way out but he doesnt leave the front yard, so far ive trapped one domestic cat in the cage and there was one in my garage that the dogs chased off, im just waiting for the ferrel to come back. ive got a can of fancy feast ill toss in the cage that i bought a while back and try that just to use it up, just waiting for the weather to warm up a bit and ill go set up the trap and disguise it for him.

I have found chicken, slightly rotten, to be excelent bait. Another less offensive bait was rabbit fur, doused liberally with catnip. There are three legal methods to destroy your tresspassing critter, gas, as in exhast gas, put live trap back in original box, place box on spare tire with open end up against wifes cars tail pipe, wait for wife to start car for trip to liquor store, enjoy. Lethal injection, never done this. Bullet to the skull, one of my favorite, bolt action .22 with subsonics is best. Do not do this in your garage if you have a car, boat or other valuables around, as subsonic will sometimes penetrate and bounce around. Always double tap a cat.

i may just try out my new yote gun on him, hit him with a .223 hunting round make sure its enough to drop a yote. i didnt think about cat nip but now that you mentioned it thats gonna likely end up in this trap to help along with the capture.

well i caught a cat, not the same cat i was after but one thats been in my yard before, in fact he was in my garage before and was chased off by my dogs. this thing looks like it may have had a home and isnt aggressive, but ive seen him as far as 2 km from my house so hes either newly homeless or just gets around. figure ill let this one live, he of course isnt wearing a collar because every good pet owner who has an out door cat keeps it collar less. so ill drop it off 30 minutes out in to the country on my way to the range today. nice wet day out side too, leave him near a wooded off area for the yotes to play with. humaine society is in the other direction of where im going and with the price of gas these days isnt worth me bringing him out there. so ill just dump him somewhere else. i have the ruge to destroy this one as well since hes been here before but being non aggressive and still semi clean id feel bad, plus he ran off when he saw my dogs the last time and took a boot in the ass from me. so ill give him another chance at life in the country.

thats how i justify the relocation, that and my wife is with me and she used to have cats till we moved in together and wouldnt much enjoy me pulling over in a farmers road somewhere and hearing gun shots. ;)

well the wife doesnt like the idea of me leaving someones "pet" out in the middle of nowhere, i explained option b was a hot lead injection from doctor 12 gauge but she didnt like that either and #####ed. so ill just follow someones advice from another thread about this and put some colorful paint on this thing and release it. think ive got some red paint somewhere

i painted it red instead and let it go, ill know if he comes back, im hoping he goes home and his owners see the red and black decorating i did on him, lol

he came back, three times this same cat came back, hes no longer with us. dirty ferrel bastard. still waiting for that black cat to come around. i noticed the guy up the road from me has a trap too so it looks like he may have an issue hes dealing with
