Tree stand missing in action

I've had two stolen, both in the same year. Now I take 'em down & hide 'em near the tree... It is a PITA to take 'em down & put them up each time, BUT, they don't grow legs & walk away...

A sad reality & I am surprised you don't hear of vigilante justice when someone gets caught...

Cheers
Jay

That's because there is no one around to witness it. ;)

Hell's fury would be unleashed if I caught anyone on my families land.

........ Hunters are their own enemies. I've lost both Treestands and game cameras and as far as I'm concerned, that is low from our own brothers.

Even caught a guy up the road that stole a game camera , called the cops and they said "your screwed" if he don't admit , we are not getting a warrent for a $100 game camera sorry for your loss....

You said it like it is Adrian, except, poachers are no brothers to us. I can see why everybody else is avoiding this issue, it is unpleasant and embarrassing. But if we keep ignoring it and allow these people to lurk among us and call themselves hunters, eventually, they will become the face of a hunter to the public. The Government is only too happy to let this happen.

To those who blame Hippies and tree huger and .....give me a break, will you?

I put them up lock them and remove at the end of the tagging out. Had 3 removed with bolt cutters but only thrown into the river. I can take you to all kinds of stands that are grown into a tree and some lying under the fallen tree from old age. This is the cost of doing business.
Why would what ever you want to call them act any different than the any other law breaker. You had a tree stand/trail cam stolen big deal, I had two vehicles stolen. The cops said we will call you if we find it and you call us if you find it. The stolen vehicle report was done over the phone sorry guys get on with your life.:bangHead:

i know people say its not the money but when you have at least $500 invested in tree stands, i'm not just going to let someone take it. talk to people that live nearby and let them know what's happened. chances are someone usually saw and odd vehicle stop at an odd location, and if you live in a small town like me, chances are you know that vehicle by description. i have no tolerance for ****ing up someones hunt.

Notice how all the people getting their stuff stolen are from Ontario or Alberta?? Here in Sask. , a guy's tree stand may be the only place he has to live.

Can you get a PO box for them???

If they wanna try take mine out go for it, I assemble them on the spot them erect them, with the help of a rather large helper. They wouldn't get very far before they gave up anyways.

Although I did have someone taking excepting to my hunting spot and decided to give the CO's a call(on what grounds I have no clue), don't think the CO appreciated the trip out there for nothing.

Kinda funny though being on crown land and have relatively few problems.

Still waiting for the day to find someone in my stands.

Exactly. Laughable to blame PETA and enviromentalists. Sure, it's not a scumbag poacher/hunter, it's a plot by non-hunters. Too funny. Some of you people crack me up. Thanks for the laugh.

I put up my tree stands before bear season and leave them chained to a tree. In the winter I go out and take them down and leave them chained to the tree. I do this so they do not grow into the tree. I have not had any stands stolen but my land is on a road of expensive cottages and anyone who goes by and sees a vehicle they don’t recognize they get nosy and nervous. Plus I think my neighbours are too nervous to go in the bush since they all know I bait for bears.

Just a thought. We lost two a couple of years ago to find out the DNR took them down. To this day we never got an official reason why and never got them back.
Apparently someone seen them and reported they were there being used for possible jacking off season?? If you know someone at the dnr office it would not hurt to ask. Good Luck

It's my cousins grandmothers property she's not going to call... But nice idea. I'll check

^^ maybe she wouldn't call, but someone walking in the woods who misinterprets what they're seeing?

out of curiosity, again, I'm not defending or imparting any wisdom of my own- just trying to learn

new brunswick the biggest thing is trail cams. i don't know how many people lost them. On one account a guy had a trail cam in side his camp on a table and another hiding a pecker head broke in stole the cam and got caught on cam. the owner knew the guy and went right to his door. and another person had the chip stolen but the idiots didnt think of internal memory and got caught to. the others gone with the wind.

My family owns 145 acres in Ontario WMU 89B. Last year we lost 2 stands and the year before a camera. The two locked stands were left up over the winter for the first time and took a walk, they left the chains which looked like they were cut with a torch, the camera was during hunting season.

The problem in this area is there is no crown land to hunt. Its all farms. On many occasions I have been out pre season and find guys looking for a spot. When I confront them they say they spoke to the land owner, then I tell them who I am and that we will be in the area during the season and that they better not.....Our large group gets pretty mad when we encounter trespassers and I have yet to see the scum brave enough to stand up to us just apologize and leave.

After speaking with other owners and the OPP we learned there have been an increase in thefts in the area.

I stopped placing trespassing signage up which seemed to make it worse. Fences are still up. I have taken my chainsaw to block some trails made through my property. Also decided to turn one trail to end abruptly in a very nice swamp. Always check to see I own a new dirt bike or ATV, only tire tracks and winch marks on trees so far...

If you own property in 89B, or have permission don't leave anything out.

people will steal pretty much anything. i've seen people rip of wire fencing... yes you read that right, stole the wire right off of the fenceposts

somewhat unrelated but : the best trespasser/land owner experience i've had so far is this

landowner threatened to shoot me because i was "poaching on his land" .....the sad part is, not only was he on the wrong field, he was on the completely wrong side of the road....about a km from where his land ended. i guess people don't understand what property markers are and just because there is crown land bordering your land.... you don't own it

I had my tree stands and cameras stolen from my aunt's home section. She was convinced I had gone to the wrong places until she went out with me and saw that they were gone as well. I hate thieves.
