From the Ontario hunting regulations, the restriction applies to using centrefire rifles while hunting small game, not for deer (other than other restrictions listed on their table.yaaa its kinda that stupid. i guess the idea is that 270 and under don't go that far or something.
Therefore, a multi-purpose rifle would have to be a .270 or smaller (7mm is too large) as it would be used for small game.
A person hunting small game may not carry or use a
rifle of greater calibre than a .275-calibre rifle, except a
muzzle-loading gun, in the geograhic areas of of Brant,
Chatham-Kent, Durham, Elgin, Essex, Haldimand, Halton,
Hamilton, Huron, Lambton, Middlesex, Niagara, Norfolk,
Northumberland, Oxford, Peel, Perth, Toronto, Waterloo,
Wellington or York.
