Tristar crooked barrel

Hi,

I bought a Tristar upland hunter ex silver ii from a shooting range. Nice gun, I loved the balance of the gun, although it is a bit hefty for me. After missing with lower barrel I just grouped the gun, and here is the result,

Upper barrel grouping ( 3 shots, 35 yards, full choke )

As you can see the lower barrel shoots low and far left. but upper barrel grouping is very very good, so the lower barrel is literally unusable.

If you know Tristar, they sell shotguns with 5 years warranty, I contacted them and they said I have to send the gun to US But I am in Alberta, Also I called a store in BC which distributes Tristar and they said the same thing and advised me to contact Tristar.

But it looks like it is not easy to send guns to the US and get it back. I need advice on what to do or if there is any Tristart branch here in Canada to fix the gun, the point is if I can not use the warranty what is the point in that! even I can not sell the gun because someone like me will end up with a crooked gun and it is not pleasant at all.

Any thoughts?

Did you try a different choke in the bottom barrel? Sometimes the choke is bored wrong or installed (threaded) wrong that can cause off shooting. I believe your problem can be resolved with some choke work or change.

Hi,

I tried both modified and full in the bottom barrel, same result, but same choke works fine in upper barrel. Unfortunately I bought the gun to do light trap but with this problem I only could shoot single target.
 
Barrel correction is not a small job with an over/under shotgun. I would suggest that you sell the gun with full disclosure and move on. Sending the gun to the US is a gong show and in my opinion not worth the effort. I would also have a very stern conversation with the gun club (retailer I presume? also new gun I presume?) and express my displeasure with the gun and them.

Barrel regulation is a much more common issue than the average double barrel shotgun owner realizes. This is due to the fact that they never pattern their gun. Although more common on inexpensive shotguns, it can happen on Beretta Silver Pigeons, Browning Citori's etc. I would chalk this one up to experience - even with well regulated barrels, that gun would likely not serve you well for trap shooting of any volume.

Very true. I had a 687 Silver Pigeon that the bottom barrel hit about a foot lower than the upper barrel. I did send the gun back under warranty and they replaced it. The replacement was better but still not as good as it should have been. In this day and age of CN machinery etc. there is no excuse for this IMO. Buying a double shotgun O/U or SxS seems to be a crapshoot. I recently bought a Huglu O/U and the barrels are regulated better than either of the Berettas I had.
 
Sending to the US for repair is painfully not worth the trouble in paperwork and shipping costs if the distributor is not doing it for you. I've heard of people going with a 6NIA temp import to do it (not really the proper way)...

You bought the gun new, correct? They say their warranty is for the original buyer only.

For a Tristar, I'm not sure it's worth it. Are they not willing to send you replacement barrels?
 
They ask for the gun, not the barrels. I think next time when I buy a gun first I will check if it has a place to send for warranty in case of problem. It was a bit pricy leason but now I know if someone ask me about Tristart I will advise them to stay away from their over and unders.
 
Pretty well every double barrel shotgun requires the barrels to be fitted to the receiver. So, unless the manufacturer has ultra-precise CNC machinery, getting a made-to-fit barrel set is a long shot. Good luck with this effort!

True and the turks are unfortunately not known for having barrels that fit every receiver. But most gunsmiths can do that. And I don't know anyone that could regulate a barrel in Canada...
 
Hah, Tristart answered the email about sending barrel and they said they have repair facility here in Canada, I don't know why they didn't mention it before and asked to send to US.

Here is the place they provided for warranty service, Grech Outdoors.

I've had a decent warranty replacement experience with these people on a Henry, but I think it was Henry that really stepped up.
You have almost a zero chance with your TriStar issue
