Trophy Hunting vs Meat/Subsistence Hunting

While my pics are not as vast as yours, check out some anyhow of my home, just check my posts you will find them.

Gunguy34, I don't think that you will be able to find anyone else with such a vast amount of photo's and hunts. I'm a trophy hunter as well and maybe c-fbmi can adopt me as his little brother.:D

Will do, and sorry to get everybody all pissed off, sometimes the whiskey and ego do take over the keyboard.

That's an excuse ... don't use it ... you were being a diickwad to alot of guys here with your comments and opinions ... remember opinions are like arsh-holes ... everyones' got one ... smarten up, read, learn ... then post ... something positive! That my opinion! ;)

C'mon guys, everone is on the same page NOW, so let's let all be positive and not digress :D OK?
GunGuy34, we can only get a special guiding permit every 3 years and my last was 2010.

The tenderloins were great, I gave the rest to some people who needed it much more than I. They apparently really enjoyed it.

here's a before and after set for ya

My personal trophy hunting meat hunting inner debate depends on what point in the season it is. If it's early, I'll hold out for something big, if it's getting late in the season I want to fill the freezer..Thats it

My bad, didnt know that I had to agree with anything a Trophy hunter says for fear of being called Anti Hunting. I am not anti hunting at all, no matter how these guys try to spin it. I just dont agree with their kind of hunting, and there is nothing wrong with stating your opinion on that as in this case the op asked for it.

If you dont want the opinion then dont ask for it. Am i to understand that CGN is primarily a hunting forum? As thats what i meant when i said that this forum is about more then hunting. I know there are different sections of CGN and if thats what you are referring too then by all means ill stay out of his hunting forum so he can have happy thoughts.

What I just don't understand is how someone could be ok with hunting, but not ok with a guy passing over small animals in order to save his tag for the big one. So long as the meat gets eaten, who cares? I just fail to see the controversy here.

No more controversy here Rocket Surgery, the young fellow apologized and now we got him working on a trophy moose hunt here in the Yukon. How cool is that? A lot has transpired between the quote you refered to and now, check it out.

My bad, I apologize. I meant to ask what rifle you used for that trophy piece you posted earlier.

My old faithful, semi custom rem 700 in 300 Wby that's been around the world with me a couple times. 200 gn accubond that year. If that old girl had a notch for every head of game she has accounted for I'm afraid there would be no stock left. :D

Hey Rocket Surgery, if you haven't already, check out "Bucket Lists" right here on this forum. Myself and a few others have posted some photos of some of our escapades around the globe. Some good photos!

Keep in mind I will never condone the senseless slaughter of animals, I find that barbaric and disgusting.

Wait, I'm confused. You killed 93 animals. The coyotes I can understand, being that they are predators of something that you may want to eat.

The rest, I am curious about. Help me make sense of it.

I have a cookbook that has 4 recipes for pigeon. I suspect magpie might make a decent pie :) . I have heard beaver tastes terrible, but it is edible. (let's avoid the obvious jokes; I do enjoy the other kind :D )

Thoughts?

I hunt for lots of reasons, but shooting a trophy is not one of them.

I'm one of those fellows who will purposely pass on an outstanding animal to go ahead and shoot a vanilla one, in the hopes that the outstanding animal is able to reproduce a few more times.

I don't try and push my values on anyone however, and don't mind when another hunter goes out and legally harvests a huge trophy.

What a trophy animal is, is detemined in the eye of the beholder. Sitting around the dinner table with family enjoying many great meals of harvested meat IMO is much more of a trophy than a big set of antlers.

How about sitting around the table with the family enjoying a nice meal of slow roasted and marinated venison backstrap with gaarlic mashed potatoes and a side of fresh vegetables all while basking in the glory of a 12 point buck over the fireplace and telling your kids the story of how you finally got that elusive trophy?... You don't necessariky have to sacrifice one for the other... And in my opinion anyone who has ever eaten tough gamy venison needs to learn how to prepare venison....

Yep Superbrad, I also look at my elephant teeth (tusks) and know, that although I did not eat any of it, it fed many people for a long time in a country where protien is not a staple of everyday life as it is here.

Couldnt haave said it better myself.

We all hunt for a 'trophy'. It's just how we define it, that changes from person to person, for some it is a head on the wall and others its meat on the table. For me it is all about alone time to myself. Now I consider this last fall kinda successful for me. Didn't get anything and on the last day in -30 with wind chill weather my dad came to check on me only to have a nice 8pt about 25 yds from my truck and my dad doesnt hunt and accidentally scared it away while I was on my way walking back to my truck. I think everybody here should consider the real trophy of being able to hunt and having the land that we have.
