TROY T-22 chassis Any News From Dealers?

what's the difference in weight - Troy vs. Nodic SR
any enefit to changing over..

Good question ... but I bet they weigh roughly the same. I been thinking now that they are available in Canada, of doing another build using one of these kits. Something to mimic a Larue REPR for the tactical long range .22lr look.

Received my T-22 today... the Troy is MUCH lighter. I was also surprised at how tight the top and bottom mate together.
I had my doubts, but, I think the TROY is going to be the clear winner if only for simplicity; the weight savings alone is awesome.

No hardware comes with the Troy at all. It's just the top, bottom, grip and stock (I got the TRX version BTW).

I'll install my 10/22 into the chassis tonight and weigh them both on the bathroom scale to ensure it's not my mind playing tricks on me.
Note: The Troy does not use a barrel support block ala Ruger SR-22. The barrel floats.

~Cheers

That is all

Ill try to post some pics later today as well as a review (quite busy though)... I'll just say that Ruger SR-22 owners need not worry as both platforms have their strengths and weaknesses.

Ugh... dissapointed:

I was getting ready to take some pics to post when I realized that the 'Take Down' screw from the 10/22 is too long for the Troy T-22 chassis; the Troy T-22 did not include a new 'Take Down' screw. Total Crap!

I don't know if Fabsports missed this (possible as it came only in bubble wrap), or the T-22 doesn't ship with one. Either way, it sucks hard. Now I have to shop around for a friggin screw to make this $400 stock work.

Anyway, I am going to list off my immediate observations:
----------------------------------------

T-22 is roughly 1lb lighter than the SR-22 (bathroom scale measurment)

Out of the box ### appeal goes to T-22 only for the "monolithic" appearance of the rail. That's it.

The T-22 will NOT accept any aftermarket AR-15 grip with a backstrap larger than the standard grip; the milled "curve" in the T-22 chassis is not the same as an AR-15 and as a result any grip with a backstrap portion that overhands will bind and not allow for installation... huge suck factor!

The SR-22 however will accept any AR-15 grip on the market.

The T-22 ships with a Commercial buffer tube. The SR-22 ships with a Milspec buffer tube.

The T-22 cannot accept the hogue trigger-gap piece that the SR-22 wears... another big-suck as I actually bought one for the T-22. Grrrrr!

The rail portion over the receiver on the SR-22 is held in place by 4 torx screws; it's never going to move and will always stay in place. For the hardcore accuracy junkies using powerful scopes, the SR-22 will provide a solid platform.

The T-22 chassis doen not have a means to lock the receiver in place under the rail, it just floats under the rail, being held down to the lower portion of the chassis only by the take-down screw.

The T-22 is much faster to strip separate having only 2 pieces.

T-22 barrel floats, the SR-22 barrel has a barrel support block near the muzzle... different schools of thought on this; I leave it up to you to decide which is best.

The SR-22 feels like you could throw it off a building and it'd still be in one piece. the T-22 not so much.

That's it for now...

Overall, despite the fact that I cannot change the grip on the T-22, I do like its looks more than the SR-22 (only for the one-piece rail).
However, the SR-22 appears to be the more well thought out design.

If the SR-22 had a solid one-piece rail, the SR-22 would be the absolute champ! I'd buy two!
So, if the one piece rail doesn't bother you, then the SR-22 is definitely the way to go.

I also think the price I paid was quite high. I was hoping for more, but I suppose if I consider that it has flip up sights already I guess it's not all bad. I would never scope this thing.

For me the "look cool factor" is fun and I do like weight savings. I hope I will enjoy the T-22 once I get it up and running despite its shortcomings. I haven't shot it yet, so as long as the integrated flip-ups are close to zero when it's ready to go all should be well.

That's about it for now... sorry for lack of pics, too bummed to post.

Update: I was just looking over my existing take-down screw and I have determined that I can safely remove half of the theaded portion and it will then be the correct length. I will complete this tomorrow. :)

Thanks for the update. What do you have to do to strip apart the SR-22 for cleaning, does the top piece on the receiver have to come off?

I was hoping to post some pics today... but I did a new re-install on computer and the pics are huge (no software to downsize at the moment... still setting up other stuff).

The T-22 has only 2 bolts keeping the top on ala TRX rail (and you don't torque them very much). But unlike the TRX which slips over a ridge then twists in place, this top portion is purely friction fit only; about 5 seconds to loosen and the entire top cover then slips off. Eazy-Peezy.

The SR-22 also has 2 bolts but they require a good minute to remove with an allen-key, then another minute to re-install.

I've got some Brownells parts coming in the mail within a weeks time, so I promise to post both up once I've swapped the grip on the T-22 with a Tango Down Battle Grip.

I managed to upload a couple crappy cell phone pics... when my T-22 is sighted in and grip swapped I'll post a new, proper comparison thread.

*NOTE: The T-22 is wearing the SR-22 16" barrel. The SR-22 is wearing a 12.5" DLASK Bull-Barrel.

Enjoy~

Quick little update... Fabsports refunded me $60; the actual price is $335 for the T-22 chassis which is much better.

I asked about the bolt and was told it didn't come with one, but, it's actually not as big a deal as I originally thought. I shortened the original bolt to fit. No problems.

I still haven't shot it, but, I'm liking it more and more :)
Again, it's the simplicity of the two pieces and it's light weight which appeal to me.

Anyway, I just wanted to update the price on the product as I thought it was pretty cool that Fabsports refunded me the difference when he could have kept quiet; a stand-up guy! :)

Any chance for some close up pics?

I would love to see The two different piecs, the handgaurd and maybe some thing to show the quality of the finish. If that would not be to much trouble. I know it Troy so it should be good, but I am curious.

Thanks

Shawn

buuuuuummmmp! So whats the deal? G37 is the only guy in Canada with one?

No we are two :D This is mine, not finish, I need change the buttstock, sorry pictures not really good

- Troy 10/22 chassis
- Magpul buttstock (soon Vltor Emod)
- Hogue pistol grip
- Troy foregrip
- Samson rail
- Kidd 18" Lightweight Barrel
- Kidd CNC Black Bolt
- Kidd Single stage trigger
- Novesque TRX QD Mount
- Troy OEM M4 Sling Mount

Other coming soon (both models)

I wait news next week

Good :

- Come with pistol grip and buttstock
- Very light
- Very fast installation (only 2 screw), it's only 2 part, the lower and the rail-upper
- Come with sights
- Look incredible

Bad :

- Mil-spec buttstock and tube (I replace mine for commercial tube)
- Ruger receiver screw to long (I made washer I give with future order)
- Can't put all pistol grip (I try MOE pistol grip, I cut the back but no confortable), you can put only A2, Hogue, Tapco and maybe the new Mapgul grip, I try that when I get them
- Can't put all scope riser because I can't remove the back or front sight
- Don't come with extra rail (for put foregrip for example), only one can be nice, and you really need foregrip, long handguard and nothing on lower for put your hands
- Opening for serial number is not exactly the good place
- No spacer between pistol grip and trigger group
- Nothing on handguard for put sling (I put the Noveske part for that)

But it's the best kit for now, very nice detail, very light, very easy installation

Wow... I didn't know we were the only 2... no wonder when I go to the range everyone wants to check it out :D

I ended up selling the SR22 and Keeping the Troy... in the end, I really like the simplicity of the Troy chassis. It's on and off quick.

I don't remember if I mentioned it, but I solved the SCREW problem... I cut the stock screw short. Works perfectly. I was also thinking of a washer, but then it'd be sticking out of the recess.

I'll try and post pics tonight - BTW, I also SOLVED the gap issue ;) I won't say how, but you'll all get to see in the pics.

Yes I get only 2, for now we are alone outside USA get one

I see you cut the screw but for future stock I made a washer.

For gap issue I need check, I think I have FS556 spacer somewere

as promised:

Butler Creek Folding stock is still my favourite... super light and compact at a folded >27".

Tada! Ruger SR-22 gap plug amd Tango grip to hold it in place ;) tricky.

You can see the length here... it's a perfect fit now (no bottoming out).

I'm using the original RUGER THREADED 16" barrel from a SR-22.

My only complaint... I had to order this custom-longer front sight post to make the sights look "normal" with my setup... unsure if it's the barrel, barrel-droop or what, but with the original AR front sight post, it had to be adjusted so high that it looked terrible and was almost completely unthreaded.

Overall I am quite happy with it. It's simple, looks cool and has no plastic parts which is really all I wanted.

Thanks, I still really really want one of these.

Was the site issue cosmetic only or were you having issues sighting it in?

Can you also post a link to the new front sight that you got?
