truck guys...whats your fuel consumption ratio( couldn't think of the proper term)LOL

I have a 1995 F150 Supercab 4X4 with 302 and the 4r70W automatic. It gets a solid 14 mpg city, 18/19 mpg hiway. Winter driving knocks 1-2 mpg off those figures. I'm OK with that fuel economy, since I have worked in the automotive industry all my life and am practical about Fuel consumption. Trucks are gas hogs, period! GM's get a bit better economy in recent years than their competition since the styling is slightly more aerodynamic. But the difference overall is not that much. The diesels give decent economy in big trucks, but when it comes time to repair them, the fuel economy is a secondary cost, believe me!! Regards, Eagleye.

Speaking of which, Eagleye, I saw a GM comercial for their "professional series" of pick up tonight, they claimed 27MPG!

Must be downhill and a tail wind in their test section.

I should have known better when I was looking at our truck. Every time I asked about the mileage of a 6.0L they would always stammer.

2005 Chev 1500 HD Crew Cab, 6.0L gas, 4X4, 18 mpg Hwy. 1998 Ford Ranger Extended cab, 2wd, 4.0L, 24 mpg Hwy. Had a 1996 Dodge Extended cab, 5.9L 4X4, 18mpg Hwy.

Old work truck: Chevy Silverado with 8100 vortec.... Sitting down? 5-6 city, 7 highway.... Worse recorded mileage? a little over 3mpg... Yeah.... almost 70l per 100km... Since disposed off. Avoid that engine! Did I mention the "acceptable" oil consumption of roughly 1l per 1k km?

"...Suzuki Sidekick...best damn vehicle I have ever had..." Wait 'til you have to buy parts. ...

You bet. I have a 1996 Sidekick 4dr which is basically running pretty well at 318k. Mileage at the moment is about 30 mpg (yeah, I'm that old!) mostly on the highway. Used to get about 34, though, 100k ago.

But I did have a problem and took it to Cdn Tire (yes, I know- WRONG! But I hadn't found a good mechanic here in Mission at that time). They "suspected the EGR valve" but couldn't test it because they didn't have a gasket and IF I had to replace the valve, Suzuki told them it would be.... wait for it.... $425.00 !!!!! Fortunately I did find a good mechanic and he discovered the problem was something much more prosiac- and cheaper cheaper to fix. The thieves who call themselves dealers also want around $80 for a glove compartment latch- they claim they cost them $54 wholesale. Yeah, whatever... But I will say it is a good little car although not a real truck, of course.

Best car I ever owned was a 1992 Dodge Colt wagon (actually a rebadged Mitsubishi.) The only thing that ever went wrong was I had to replace the gas lifters on the hatch. Again, idiot dealer wanted $50 each. I got them from a wrecker for half that and the car ran perfectly until some scumbag totalled it (and nearly me) then lied through his teeth to ICBC, who were stupid enough to believe him until I raised hell and got away with "25% responsibility" courtesy of some senile retired judge who was called in to arbitrate. But the car was excellent. I still see the odd one on the road, always immaculately maintained.

My 97 Tracker (Suzuki Sidekick under the GM name) is now being driven by my sister. "Check Engine" light came on last year. Took it to Suzuki and they said it needed a Mass Air Flow Sensor... $1200 (she only paid $1500 for th car) They told me until it starts getting poor gas mileage, don't bother replacing the part. Well like I said, it has been well over a year maybe even 2. no problems.

Out of all of the Suzukis I have ever had...
1991 Sidekick (abused and neglected)
1997 Tracker
1999 Esteem
1999 Grand Vitara
2006 Swift+

I have replaced: 1 Rad, 1 computer (both on the 91), 1 wheel bearing.

I have also replaced the tranny on the Esteem, which I found out later, that not clearing the ICe out of your driveway is hard on a transmisiion, I got that car stuck alot and I did ruin the tranny myself but Suzuki replaced it at 20,000k over the warranty!!!

And on the Grand Vitara I have replaced the front brake Calipers as they were caked in mud for many many months and seized up on me. (when I first bought it it had issues with the Catalytic converters but was replaced at no charge)

So really a very inexpensive brand to own. Went in ofr an oil change yesterday and the Mechanic asked if I needed anything else (after the oil change) I said "no" and he said "man I love working on Suzukis" Oh yes, and our Suzuki dealership, which services all of PEI has only 1 Mechanic and they stock no parts other than Filters, plugs, wiper blades etc.

Good to know, should you need a rad, computer, or a wheel bearing.....

My point is they do not stock parts that they rarely (if ever) need. you can get almost anything within 24hrs these days.

The only time the car was actually "broken down" was when I needed a computer worst part was I had just sold the car to a buddy and the computer died before he picked it up. I should also note that the sidekick and is older than his dealership so he really wasn't servicing "his" vehicle and it was 14 years old when it required the computer.

I thought we were talking trucks here  A Suzuki Sidekick is not a truck, not even close....

that's funny, because I've towed out 3 pickups this winter already with it. 190,000kms on it and NOTHING has broke yet. have fun with your wonderfull domestic gas guzzler.

### is spending $$$$ on 16mpg

Chris has it right. We are a jeep family i run a 2000 Jeep TJ and my wife has a 2003 Grand Cherokee. However when i was younger my father had a Suzuki that performed awesomely and if i found one again that wasn't bagged i would buy it in a heartbeat. They are an unbeatable rig for what an outdoorsman would need.

I had a Ranger with a Mitsubishi diesel in it from back in the 80s, came from the factory that way. Two wheel drive, 4 speed standard trans. Was a decent little truck for two people or one man and a dog. Once the fuel pump went, and getting parts was very difficult, it basically got parked. Good milage though. - dan

sigh.......

Unless you can get a few full sheet of plywood (4'x8'x3/4") and a dozen concrete pavers at +80lbs each its not a real truck :p

My poor old truck 98 Chevy heavy 3/4T 4x4 with the 350 Vortex is a bit of a fuel pig

I get about 6Km/l and thats on/off road city/highway combined, based on 5000Km travel

whatever that is in MPG (I'm afraid to calculate it)

Edit, just out of interest I did

6 km/liter = 16.9488562 miles/gallon(UK)

not so bad, we are using Imperial UK gallons here right

if not 6 km/liter = 14.112875 miles/gallon(US) not as good but not as bad as I thought
