Damn straight Win94, althought not 'trucks' these little guys are extremely good in the bush. I've never ran one but I've never met anyone who owned one that had buyer's remorse.

I ran in to an old guy last fall hunting by himself well off the beaten track with a ~early 90s Sidekick. I asked him about it and he said its the best vehicle he's ever owned. He only wished that it wasn't so 'tired'. The ol dude had about 300 K on it and the rust was starting to get bad..

We were in Costa Rica over the holidays and you see a lot of them down there - with deisels- :cool: Where we go the roads are real bad. The locals load the living #### out of these little rigs with huge roof racks full of cargo and the cabin full of people and 4 or 5 guys hanging off the sideboards is a common sight. They seem to hold up very well...
 
I think a lot of guys are posting thier BEST mileage, not thier average mileage.

If all trucks averaged what some guys here are claiming we would still have a billion years of oil left.

I'm questioning some of the numbers too. Whenever I ask the guys I know what kind of mileage their truck is getting, it was like I kicked them in the nuts. :eek:

I'm actually surprised after doing the conversions, I thought that I would be around 12MPG with my truck


but 16MPG is respectable, I'm happy now I didn't go with the 4.11 diffs

oh and its a 5speed manual 350vortex with limited slip 3.73 diffs

We actually had a damened hard time kicking it out ....
We got the lift indstalled and put the tires on it and then it wouldn't fit out the door......Had to take the tires and lift off to get it out of the garage....LOL

The big three AND Japanese car manufacturers are really missing the boat by not applying the same current diesel designs to 4 bangers and putting them into those compact trucks. They would still get fuel mileage close to mine with twice the horsepower available on demand. I like building my own motor vehicles because 'I can', but it would be nice to see the car manufacturers getting serious about cutting back oil consumption and basically start doing what I've done on my own...

Remember the old rabbit diesel... not much of a truck but great fuel economy!
 
GM did some experimenting with diesel power back in the early 80's and it was a huge flop, largely because they were trying to convert gas engines to run on diesel. I think Ford tried converting a gasser 4 cyl to diesel for use in the Tempo as well ( may be mistaken here). I think that a lot of north american car buyers shy away from diesels because of this. Mercedes has had huge succcess with its diesels in Europe, I think you will see them ( Daimler Chrysler aka Dodge) introducing a lot more diesel powered models over here in the next 3 to 5 yrs.
 
I have a base edition 2005 Chevy Trailblazer -- 4.2L I-6, 270 HP, 4x4

If I take it easy and run premium gas, I get 19 around town and 25-1/2 highway

If I'm pushing harder and running regular gas, I get 17 around town and 24 highway.

And to add a strange little twist on gas prices, NB just recently started regulating gas. Like most places, the ESSO here in Miramichi discounts their premium gas 3 cents / liter every Thursday. Every once in while, the gas regulation board sets the price of premium at a point where it is cheaper than regular gas on Thursdays. Also, all of last week, premium gas was only 0.7 cents more expensive than regular. I doubt this will last long.

It pisses me off to no end......commend you on your conversion. My dad did something similiar with 79 extra cab it is on regular cab frame and has a shortend 71 stepside box with a 6.9 diesel from a 84 I think?

Yes, I remember those. I was working at a GM dealership at the time and had the pleasure of being the first one in our area to road test one. It was a converted big block olds engine shoehorned into a delta 98. It didn't work too badly new, but most of them failed in the first 50k miles and once they were out of warranty, most folks stuck a gas engine back in. I've never seen one of the diesel Tempos, but heard from a couple of folks that they were quite happy with them.

I have a 1996 F 150 4x4. It is powered by a cast iron 300 six cylinder. I can squeek 20 mpg out of her in 5th (OD) at 100 kph. Winter results are lower. ( 15 to 18) This engine is fuel injected. Ford's attempt at putting lipstick on a pig. Still at 198,000 km she still running like a hound....

My '95 GMC 3/4 4x4 extended cab long box 6.5L diesel gets between 17 and 21 depending on what I am doing. Very tough truck, drives great. My favorite truck ever, once I had that 6.5 figured out.
My wifes truck is a '03 Chev 3/4 4x4 extended cab shortbox with the duramax diesel. She has averaged 25mpg in the last 130000km she put on it. It has a performance chip that will put out an extra 100hp and something like 200ftlbs of torque. This truck is scary fast! 0-60 under 7 secs, 4 wheel blackies 10' long from a boosted launch.

What can I say, I'm a General fan.
 
i thought it was bad but.........

my old 89 bronco that just retired with a 5L and auto with overdrive only got 8.3 miles per us gallon. eww
 
The best mileage my 2002 Yukon XL 4x4 (5.3l V8) gets is 22 mpg. I get this pretty consistently at moderate highway speeds (100 to 110 km/hr). From there it's all downhill, but when you consider the carrying capacity of that brute, I'm not disappointed.

Every now and then I consider moving down in size to improve gas mileage, but when you consider that all you're going to get with a midsize truck is 2-3 mpg it's just not worth it.
 
hey guys, anyone have a colorado or canyon? what kind of gas mileage do ya's get? i'm goin to be looking for something this spring and was wondering about these trucks, thanks guys for any info, Will.
